ANN (Wasylyna) KRASNY (nee HRODZICKY)

Peacefully, on Monday, February 26, Ann Krasny passed away.

Ann was predeceased by her husband Paul, son Matthew and daughter Mary. She will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Peter and wife Karen, Alexander and wife Rachelle, and Michael and wife Jane. She will forever hold a place in the hearts of her grandsons Jonathan, Robert, and Ryan.

Ann was born in Delatyn, Ukraine on July 7, 1922 and spent an idyllic childhood growing up on her family’s extensive land in the Carpathians before being subjected to the hardships of Stalinist collectivization. As a young woman, she was sent to a German labour camp in Erfurt. She met Paul at the end of WWII and through her resourcefulness, they made their way to Belgium where they were married in 1949. Ann was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She and Paul raised their family in Winnipeg’s North End and spent many happy years in their Bannerman Ave home.

Ann was a woman of faith and was proud of her Ukrainian heritage. Well-known for her exquisite cross-stitch which has graced everything from shirts for entire choirs, blouses for Ukrainian dancers, wedding dresses, table linens, cushions, and museum quality works presented to the church, Ann took a historical interest in the various patterns representing the many regions of Ukraine and willingly shared her knowledge and talents with others. Baba was an exceptional cook and was happiest when everyone was well fed on her pyrohy and hulubtsi. In recent years, she resided at the St. Mary the Protectress Villa before moving to Holy Family Home.

The family would like to thank the staff at Holy Family for their dedicated care during the past two years. Funeral service will take place 10:00 am Tuesday, March 6 at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St. with Fr. Isidore Dziadyk, OSBM presiding. Interment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
