Our adored mother and Mémère, aged 92 passed away peacefully on April 3, 2018 at the Grace Hospital. Irene will be lovingly remembered by her children Linda (Les) Stadel, Richard (Louise) Bourrier, Louise (Mike) Gagne, Alfred Bourrier, Christine (Lawrence) Lussier and Janet (Chuck) Ross, her grandchildren Rick, Kathryn, Steven, Mike, Karen, Michelle, Jackie, Robert, Claire, Raymond, Veronica, Laura, Alycia, Paul and Sean, and 24 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her two sisters Dorothy (Scott) Davison and Evelyn (Bob) Turenne. Irene was predeceased by her husband Adrian Bourrier and her parents William and Bernadette Goebel, brothers Ernest and Alfred, and sisters, Edna, Hilda and Marguerite.
In her early years, Irene attended school at St. Joseph’s Academy. After graduation she attended Normal school in Winnipeg. She loved her job teaching nine grades in a one-room school before marrying Adrian in 1949 and starting her family. Mom devoted her life to her family and it was her great joy to host everyone at her home in Niakwa Park for holidays, Sunday dinners, and afternoon tea. Her grandchildren loved their Mémère and they were equally the light of her life. As they grew up and started their own families across Canada and the world she remained an important part of their lives. Irene loved staying up-to-date on what her grandchildren were studying and on their careers. She attended all their wedding celebrations and enjoyed her many great-grandchildren. Even in her nineties she knew just how to connect with the smallest members of the family, playing and laughing with them. She will be greatly missed.
A special thank you to the management and staff at Seine River Retirement Residence, her Home Care Coordinator and workers, and the staff at Grace Hospital for helping mom live her final months comfortably and with dignity.
