It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Myron Bielak on Friday September 8th, 2017. He leaves his beloved wife of 50 years Judy (nee Buckowski) and his sons Daniel (Ruth) and Corey (Michele), grandsons Jack and Andy, nieces and nephews and many friends and colleagues. He was predeceased by his two sisters (Rose and Victoria) and two brothers (Sylvester and Nick).
Myron was born on August 4th, 1936 in Winnipeg’s North End. He joined the RCAF in 1957, travelling and training in Canada, the US and parts of Europe, as a RADAR technician. After his return in 1963, he worked briefly for Picker X-ray and the CNR, before joining the Canadian Pacific Railway as a locomotive electrician, from which he retired as a Supervisor in 1996.
Myron and Judy met in 1963 at a church function and were married 3 years later; they celebrated the 50th anniversary of their interesting and happy life together in 2016 surrounded by family and friends.
He was a faithful parishioner and long-serving ‘cantor’ for the Sunday English mass at Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church, as well as their A/V technical advisor for many years.
Myron was enthusiastically involved in a number of organizations throughout his life, including a long proud membership in the Knights of Columbus – Council 4138; serving as the President of the Faraday Elementary School Parents council, and as Cub Scout leader for a number of years. He and Judy have also been staunch supports of local charities, including D’Arcy’s Ark animal shelter and Siloam Mission.
Myron could be counted on by family, friends and neighbours and was unfailingly supportive of his parents, siblings, in-laws and children over many years as groundskeeper, handyman, councillor and comforter. He 10-pin bowled for well over 20 years and honed his cribbage skills for years after the ball became a bit too heavy to lift. His home garden – and sanctuary for birds and butterflies – kept him and Judy busy many days of the year. But it was his love of his grandsons that shone brightest, in person via vid-conference, and who brought him no end of joy from the first moment they arrived.
Service will be held at Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church, 965 Boyd Ave on Thursday, September 14th at 10:00 am, with refreshments served after. Internment at Holy Family Cemetery will follow in the coming days.
His family would like to Thank the many people and organizations that helped Myron and Judy remain at home and manage his illness over least last many months, including the WHRA and their home care staff, RANA group, Winnipeg EMS services and the caring and empathetic staff of the Seven Oaks GH Emergency department. A special Thank You to Dr D. M. Miller, for his trusted medical council and support these many years.
