Peacefully on Thursday March 1, 2018, at home, Paul Erik Jessen passed away at the age of 92 years.
Paul was predeceased by his beloved wife Isabelle in 2012 and is survived by daughter Paula Burke (Glenn), son Michael Jessen (Patti), grandchildren Ainsley, Robert and Nicholas. Paul was predeceased by his sister Martha and survived by sisters Ebba, Jette (Orle) and Lis and brother Ole (Steena) and many nieces and nephews in Denmark as well as extended family in Canada and the U.S.
Paul was born November 23, 1925 in Denmark and graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in Copenhagen, Denmark in 1952. He emigrated to Canada in 1954 and was assistant veterinarian in Neepawa for two years. It was here that he met Isabelle. Marriage soon followed and he and Isabelle spent the next eighteen years in Melita where he had a large veterinary practice and where they raised their children. In 1975 Paul joined the Health of Animals Branch of the Federal Government in Winnipeg and worked there until his retirement.
Paul was active in Toastmasters in Melita and had a life-long interest in theatre, art and travel, visiting many countries in Europe as well as Mexico the U.S. and the Caribbean. After retirement Paul traveled to many parts of Asia, Africa and South America.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Friday March 9 at 2:30 p.m. at Kildonan Community Church, 2373 Main St.
