Bohdan Buyachok Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bohdan Buyachok on Friday, April 19, 2024 at Riverview Health Centre.

Bohdan was born in Winnipeg on August 10, 1953. He attended Faraday and Isaac Newton Schools and graduated from St. John’s High School. Bohdan worked for the City of Winnipeg seasonally as he continued his studies at the University of Manitoba. He also worked as a summer student in the High Arctic (Nanasivik) for Transport Canada. Upon graduation, he worked full-time in the Land Surveys Department (now Geomatics) in the Planning, Property and Development Department at the City of Winnipeg from where he retired. Bohdan also assisted with interpretation and composition of documentation in French for the department. He was fluent in three languages: English, Ukrainian, and French.

A quiet, intelligent, humble, generous, and kind “gentle” man, who lovingly cared for his mother and brother will also be sadly missed by his family and many friends whose lives he touched through his character and virtues. Bohdan gracefully accepted the will of God as he passed into eternity. He was grateful for the love shown to him in the many visits, calls, and cards of support he received during his brief illness.

Bohdan is survived by his sister, Sister Andreya Vladia of Sugarloaf, PA. Also mourning his passing are the Kozelko family, many cousins and family in Canada, the United States, and Ukraine as well as many lifelong friends, and his beloved cat, Chobi. He was predeceased by his parents, Andrew and Catherine, and his brother, Monsignor Michael.

Sincere thanks to the health care teams at CancerCare Manitoba, HSC (6GH), and Riverview Health Centre for the respectful and compassionate care of Bohdan and his family. Special thanks to his personal physician, Dr. Waters. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Rev. V. Bashutskyy for his spiritual care and friendship. We also appreciate the support of other clergy and church members.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice in his name.

We thank God for the gift of Bohdan. May this deserving man rest in peace, in a place where there is no more sorrow or pain.
