It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Emilia Maslo (nee Suprun) on September 2, 2019. Emilia war born on April 16, 1930 in Novorissiysk, Kuban. She married Nicholas Maslo on February 3, 1948 in Mittenwald Germany where a daughter Anna was born and passed away only 2 days later. Emilia and Nicholas emigrated to Canada in 1948 seeking a better life. They worked hard together saving up funds to build and operate a small neighborhood store Maslo Grocery on Barber Street. A family grew with the birth of son Alexander 1951 – 1976, daughters Anna 1958, Vera 1960 – 2002 and son Victor, 1965. This brought on the need to move to a larger and most welcoming beautiful home on Bannerman Avenue. Mama worked several part-time jobs to help Tato with raising, feeding and sheltering a growing family. She never stopped working the full-time job of Mother. Life went on and grandchildren Raissa (husband Malte), Adam (Yanara) and Maksym and great-grandchildren Nicholas and Constantine were added to the branches of our family tree. With the purchase of a cottage in Sandy Hook in 1970, Emilia’s love of flowers and gardening took seed, grew and blossomed into such lush bountiful vegetable and flower gardens people walking by ALWAYS walked a little slower past her gardens just to admire them. When milk carts were used to shelter young tomato plants from spring elements one child passed by exclaimed “Look Mom – they’re growing MILK!”
Mama was always generous with her time, volunteering for church functions either rolling thousands of varenyky over the years or arranging hundreds of flowers into centerpieces for church suppers.
Mama loved music, was an avid reader if she had any spare time…. and embroidering and cross-stitch. She loved family and get-togethers in Winnipeg or at her cottage. Her laughter was explosive, infectious and almost as loud as her sneezes!
A daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Emilia will be remembered and dearly missed
