Mary Zaporozan Obituary

It is with great sorrow and sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Zaporozan (nee Galawagchuk) on June 23, 2018. Mary was predeceased by her parents, Kost and Frances Galawagchuk; her husband Danny Zaporozan; and her son Robert Zaporozan.

She is survived by her son Ronald (Donna) and daughter-in-law Sylvia; grandchildren, Oriasya, Taras, and Lori; great-grandchildren Samantha (Josh) and Ariana (Jordan); and a great-great-grandchild, Luxe.

Mary met Danny in 1949, and they were married in September of 1950. They had two children, Robert and Ronald. Through the years they had two restaurants and then decided to start a catering business that they ran for 35 years. During those years, they had their winter home in Brownsville, Texas for 21 years. In the later years after Danny passed, mother would go to Friendly Settlers on Mondays, and bingo on Wednesdays and sometimes Fridays, but most of all she liked to play bingo at the casino. Mother always liked having birthdays and many other functions at the house. Most of all, Christmas (English and Ukrainian); she would go all out for these special days. Down the road, she started watching the Jets play and got a little feisty at times. But overall, she enjoyed her life and never complained too much. Mother liked everybody.

The family would like to thank the nursing staff on A7 West of the St. Boniface Hospital: Tracy, Flanna, Jen W., Rachan, Kabrine, Wendel, and Raquel, for the compassion and care they showed to the family during this time.

A prayer service will be held at St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Parish, 100 Yale Ave. E., at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 29, officiated by Fr. Alan Wizinsky. Funeral Divine Liturgy will be celebrated by Fr. Alan Wizinsky at St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Parish on Saturday, June 30 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Transcona Cemetery on Wednesday, July 4th.

Pallbearers will be Peter Szewczuk, Eddie Szewczuk, Robert Budey, Doug Karp, Mike Romas, Tom Bellows, and Josh Kaserbauer.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary’s memory can be made to the Pacemaker Clinic at St. Boniface Hospital, C1026-409 Tache Ave., Winnipeg MB, R2H 2A6.
