Shirley Davis Obituary

SHIRLEY MARIE DONALDA DAVIS

JUNE 27, 1938 – DECEMBER 14, 2019

Peacefully with family by her side, Shirley Davis passed away at the Bethesda Regional Health Centre in Steinbach, Manitoba on Saturday December 14, 2019.

Shirley was predeceased by her husband Vernon Davis in 2016, brother Lorne McDonald, father Alexander Mcdonald and mother Pauline Mcdonald (nee Baudria).

Shirley will be lovely remembered and missed by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren: David (Gina), Annette, Krystal (Rushford), BJ, Ashley, Jessica (Jeremy), Cassidy, Rayden, Amy, Paige, Emily and Kassandra; In addition to brothers and sister – Janet, Wallace and John.

Shirley remained close to Sister’s in Law, Florence (and uncle Bob) and Eileen Davis to whom she spoke frequently.  She was also very fond of special friends Tom and Lorraine Stewart and friend, neighbor and confidant Marion Ross. Shirley spoke often of the time you shared with her.

Shirley was born June 27, 1938 in Regina, Saskatchewan and married her husband Vernon on December 30, 1954. Shirley was extremely proud of their 61 years of marriage before Vern’s passing.

They both called Badger a weekend retreat and then a retirement home for many years.

Shirley took pride in her home, where love, understanding and guidance were key components to their growing family.

She was always ready to greet you with a warm welcoming smile and bestow such great hospitality to anyone who would come to visit.

Shirley was always talking…about memoires of her childhood in Regina and summers in Weyburn with her cousin Marlene.  She remembered fondly, gatherings in the cove at Bird Lake with many life-long friends.  Cross country skiing at Badger, Snowmobiling with friends George and Marlene before cottage life; her many years as a Kinnette in volunteer community service.  She loved to tell you about her latest grandchild and how special they were to her.

Shirley would tell you she was a domestic engineer.  She maintained a home and kept the home fires burning as Vern’s work in the construction industry led them to more than seventeen moves across Manitoba in the early years.  Each time the project wrapped up, she would pack up and set out on the next journey with Vern.

Spending so much time as a stay at home mom and wife she became a great connoisseur of TV, the movies and Hollywood.  No matter what she was doing the TV was always on.  She knew the details of the local news from coast to coast as well as the latest Hollywood gossip on the stars young and old.  She could also recite the original plots of virtually any soap opera all the way back to the 60’s.  From I love Lucy and MASH, to Dr Oz and the Academy Awards this was her passion. She was eager to recant the latest episode or dispense advice from Dr Phil or the 5th estate.

A private family memorial service will be held.  Details on a spring interment service will be announced once confirmed and Words of Condolence may be left at
