Violet Dawydiuk Obituary

Mom passed away suddenly on November 13th at the Morris General Hospital, joining Dad after nearly 40 years.  She was predeceased by her parents Theodore and Maria Krishka and all 11 of her siblings, her son Wayne, grandson Justin, as well as her second husband Steve Chubey.  Left to cherish Violet’s memory are her children: Dianne (Tony) Lazaruk, Joan (Ray) Hoemsen, Russ (Fran), Terry (Victoria), daughter-in-law Marian, Step children Don (Pat) Chubey and Diane (Lorne) Morrisseau, 7 grandchildren: Tim, Wendy, Christopher, Curtis, Travis, Dylan, Charen and their spouses, 11 great-grandchildren, a great-great grandson, her step-grand and great-grandchildren, four sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law and a multitude of nephews and nieces.

Mom was born and grew up in Spirit River, Alberta.  This is where she met and married our dad, Bill Dawydiuk on June 26, 1947.  They came to Arbakka, Manitoba for their honeymoon and stayed to farm with Dad’s parents until 1950 when they bought a farm three miles away. In the spring of 1977 they sold the family farm to their son Wayne and moved to Vita.  Dad’s sudden passing in January 1979 altered the vision for their retirement.  In 1993 Mom married long time friend Steve.  Their marriage provided happiness and the companionship that had been missing from Mom’s life.

She worked hard all her life and was very involved in her community and church.  She was a strong woman fiercely devoted to her family.  Nothing brought her more joy than to have her large extended family gathered together for holidays, birthdays and family reunions.  Her zest for life and faith gave her the strength to deal with her recent decline in health and she welcomed her call to eternal rest.

Viewing will be Thursday November 22 at Vita Hall at 7:00 p.m. followed by Panahyda. Funeral rite will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Friday November 23 at Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Vita.  Interment at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery, Arbakka, Manitoba.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Nicholas Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery, Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church or a charity of one’s choice.
