It is with sadness that the family of Anna Paslawskij announces her passing on October 16th, 2025 in Winnipeg Manitoba, at the age of 101.
Left to honour Anna’s memory are her daughters Maria (Emil) and Irene, Grandchildren Tamara (Ross), Cameron (Ann-Marie), Evan, Brianne, Great Grandchildren Austin, Camden, Eva, Lucas, Caleb, Montana and Beatrice.
Anna was born in selo Kozaky in Ukraine in 1923. During World War 2, she was taken as forced labour to Germany where she worked for a pig farmer. After the war, she met her future husband Walter Paslawskij (deceased July 1991) and they married in 1945 after the war. It was in the next year, 1946, that they welcomed their first daughter Maria. It was then, they decided in 1948 to immigrate to Canada, and settle in Penticton, near Anna’s brothers Alex and John. In 1950, Anna and family made the move to Winnipeg, welcoming their second daughter Irene, in 1954.
Over the years, Anna worked for Perth’s Cleaners, The Allen Company sewing parkas, and Victoria Leather until she developed cancer. It was then she got involved in a cancer trial and managed to survive.
Anna loved to garden, she was known for her delicious crops of tomatoes and onions. Her flower gardens were to be rivaled, especially her huge geraniums that livened up the entire neighbourhood. She was also a very active parishioner of Blessed Virgin Mary Church, and was a member of the Woman’s League. Anna volunteered her time to creating many of the Ukrainian embroideries, that have adorned the altar of our church, as well as making perogies weekly with fellow loyal parishioners.
Anna absolutely adored and doted on her many beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren. Both of her grandsons were altar boys for about 15 years, and her granddaughters were Children of Mary. She loved nothing more than to embroider and sew gifts for them.
Anna resided at Amber Meadow residence until she moved to Maples Personal Care Home. She was a very strong woman, until Covid forced her to slow down into a wheelchair.
Family and friends were an important part of Anna’s life and she found great joy in celebrating special events with them.
A funeral service for Anna will be held on October 27th, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main Street, Winnipeg MB with interment to follow at Holy Family Cemetery.
Honourary Pallbearers: Cameron Wallis, Evan Orobko, Austin MacKay, Camden MacKay, Lucas Kozielic and Caleb Grant.
The family would also like to thank the staff at Maples Long Term Care Home.
