Barry Dickie Obituary

February 7, 1949 - May 6, 2022

With strength and dignity, Barry passed away peacefully at the Whitemouth Personal Care Home, at the age of 73.   He will be remembered lovingly by his partner of 40 years, Elaine, stepchildren, Jason, Shawn, Charlene (Ken) and grandchildren. He is survived by siblings Sherron, Lynn (Ron), Ray (Cheryl), nieces and nephews.

He was born in Winnipeg to Bill and Evelyn Dickie. He received his Certificate for Electronics Technician at Red River College and was employed at Bristol Aerospace/Magellan for 47 years. As an avionics technician he worked on retrofitting airplanes, helicopters, building satellites for NASA and many other projects.

Barry accepted the challenge of a ready made family when he met Elaine. He was wonderful to the kids. He was always there to lend a helping hand. You couldn't ask for a more gentle man. Barry was hard working with a quiet personality. He was a man you could count on.  He didn't want to be in the limelight; he just liked to be there for people. He took pride in his home and spent many leisure hours winemaking and worked meticulously on various projects around the house. He was a proficient baker and cook. There wasn't any task too big for Barry. He loved spending time with our numerous furry friends. Our chihuahuas Diego, Yeti and Larna, loved being in the kitchen when Barry was cooking. He also enjoyed travelling throughout Canada and the States with the motorhome. It was quite different from the leisurely cruises he had been on numerous times with Elaine.

Barry retired to Whitemouth in 2014. To Barry, this was a strong reminder of where his family and ancestors were in the past. He spent time researching his roots and joined the Whitemouth Museum, as a volunteer. He was always available when he was needed. He belonged to the Happy Hours Club and volunteered by making soup and sandwiches for their Thursday lunches. He enjoyed the senior exercises each week.

Our family would like to extend our deepest thanks to the EMS workers, hospital staff at the Health Sciences and Pinawa Hospital, and to the staff at Whitemouth Care Home for their compassionate care.

Barry, rest in peace. You were loved and will be greatly missed. Thanks for being in our lives.
