Claudette Lucille (Dubois) Burling

Claudette Burling Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother Claudette on Saturday September 30,2023.  Mom was surrounded by loved ones and passed away peacefully after a 23 year battle with cancer.

Mom baffled the medical field. They would tell her “Claudette you should be very sick”, “Claudette you shouldn’t be doing so well”.  But she was always quick to give God the glory.  12 years after surviving breast cancer, she was diagnosed with stage 4 metastasized lung cancer in 2012.  She continued having a full life for 6 ½ years with no treatment, then started chemo in 2019.  8 months ago she made the decision to stop all treatment.

Mom was a strong, faithful Christian who taught us so many good values and principles.  She fostered children for over 30 years.  Lovingly accepting children in to out home and lives.  Everyone of then thrived under her care.  We had the kind of Mom everyone dreamed of.  She did a lot with us growing up in Winnipeg and then in St. Malo for our teen years.  Her great sense of humour had us all laughing.  Everybody just loved Auntie CoCo.  She loved playing games and made the best stove top popcorn.  Mom was very close to her 5 sisters and enjoyed many shopping trips to the USA where they would literally shop till they dropped.  She took us sliding, skating, on picnics, for car rides and read us stories at night.  She was a great foster Mom and did a lot with her kids.  Taking them on holidays with us.  These kids are family and treated as such.  She was kind to all.  Our wonderful memories will be treasured.

Mom is survived by her children Don (Michelle), Jennifer, Frank and two special kids Samantha and John Edwards, her grandchildren: David (Chantal), Amanda (Travis), Russel, Brooke (Jeff), Latisha, Daniel, JenJen, Kayla, Tyrone, Angel, Lailah, Ashlyn, Shanice, Shyanna, Bella and Rylie Edwards.  Her great grandchildren: Jaycob, Rylie and Jackson.  Her brothers Mike, Emile, Herve and Norman;  Sisters Gisile, Rose, Madeleine, Claire and Joanne.  As well as many friends, nieces, nephews and family.

She was predeceased by her husband David in 2021, Parents André and Noella Dubois in 2015, brother Roland in 2018 and granddaughter Melissa in 1994.

The family would like to thank the Palliative Care Team and the Home Care Team for helping us care for Mom at home.

Pallbearers: Russel Burling, Daniel Burling, Caleb and Matthew Gauthier, Tyrone Watt and Jaycob Black.

Celebration of life will be held on October 11th,  2023 at 2pm at the Shevchenko Ukrainian Centre, 19 Church Road, Rosa MB.  Interment to follow at the Rosa Cemetery across from the hall.  Pastor William Evans officiating.

2nd Corinthians 5:8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.

“You finished your course Mom and kept holding on to Jesus.  See you soon”
