Daphne Barter Obituary

It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of our beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt and grandmother, Daphne Barter at St Boniface Hospital on Monday, May 9th, 2022.

The youngest of three siblings, Daphne was born in Virginia Water, United Kingdom to her proud parents Ivy and Thomas Gray. As the daughter of a Quarter Sargent Major in the Scots Guard, Daphne had the opportunity to live and go to school in various places such as England, Scotland and Germany. Daphne would eventually emigrate to Canada in 1973 and become a Canadian citizen. While living in Toronto she met her future husband, Kevan, who at the time was her landlord. As time went on, the pair would grow closer together and continue their journey across Canada and the USA- exploring North America while living life to the absolute fullest. Daphne and Kevan got married in 1979 in Winnipeg with close friends and family by their side. Eventually, she would have two sons, Gavin and Ashton, of whom she never missed the opportunity to proclaim how proud she was of her boys. After a brief stay in the UK with her family, Daphne made her way back to Canada- making Winnipeg her forever home. Once there, she would develop her skills and attend community college where she graduated with the highest GPA of any student who had attended. Math was her strong point, so naturally, she secured herself a position at Crosstown Civic Credit Union and would work there until her retirement in 2014.

Daphne had a vivacious personality and a rock star attitude that left an everlasting impression on all who had met her. She always tried to make the best of every situation and never held back her pure honesty. You could always find Daphne with her nose in a book, relaxing in the sun on the deck in her back yard, or visiting her grandchildren whenever she could. She will be forever missed by us all and never forgotten. We love you dearly.

Daphne is survived by her husband Kevan, two sons, Gavin (Michelle) and Ashton (Megan), her two grandchildren, Grayson and Declan, her Sister Eileen and her brother Thomas (Kathy), survived by her nephews Robert (Claudia), Scott, and Thomas, and niece Deborah (Ian).

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
