Dennis Strilchuk Obituary

It is with sadness in our hearts that we the family announce the passing of Dennis James Strilchuk, 72 years, of Winnipeg, MB on May 4, 2024.

Dennis is survived by his devoted wife Marie-Adele Strilchuk (Casavant) of 52 years. Also, his two cherished daughters Natalie (Brian) Cameron and Carmen Strilchuk of Winnipeg. His beloved three sons Desmond (Carrie) Strilchuk and Vincent Strilchuk of Winnipeg and Matthew (Nicole) Strilchuk of Dauphin, MB. Four special grandsons: Mitchell, Ryan, Ezra, and Micah Strilchuk. His sister Darlene and her partner Luis Mirayo, his nephew and godson Kelly Unrau and his children Oshyn and Kaycer, nephew Kory Unrau, and niece Melanie (Jordon) Skinner all of Calgary, Alberta.

He was predeceased by his parents Albert and Rose Strilchuk, his parents- in-law George and Marie-Ange Casavant, sister-in-law Fleur Larson, brothers- in- laws: John Boychuk, David Erlendson and Ted Hoehn.

Also surviving are six sisters- in- laws: Dianne (Gordon) Beaulieu of Fort Saskatchewan, AB, Leona (Larry) Therrien, of Neepawa, MB, Gloria Boychuk of Winnipeg, Aline Erlendson of Ste. Rose, Doreen Trudeau of Edmonton and Odelia Hoehn of Winnipeg. Five brothers- in- laws: Robert (Therese) Casavant of Ste. Amelie, MB. Leonard (Wendy) Casavant of East Selkirk, MB. Raymond (Louise) Casavant and Paul (Carol) Casavant, both in Winnipeg and Michael (Valerie) Casavant of Fargo, North Dakota. Also, one uncle Joe Kruk and aunt Lena Kruk both of Dauphin, MB. There are many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Dennis was born September 30, 1951 in Dauphin, MB, where he was raised and received his education. On October 2, 1971 he married Marie-Adele Casavant in Dauphin and together they raised their 5 children.

Through his lifetime Dennis worked for CN as a ballast inspector for 4 years. In 1975 Dennis completed his journeyman mechanic’s license. He then worked in Gillam, MB on the Long Spruce Generating station for 4½ years. Eventually the family returned to Dauphin and Dennis started working at Provincial Granite Works full time as manager for 32 years and also helped out at Sneath Strilchuk funeral home when needed. He retired in 2006 and a few years later he and Marie-Adele decided to move to Winnipeg.

Dennis loved life and enjoyed fishing, hunting, skidooing, quading, barbecuing, playing pool and cribbage. He also loved listening to country music. He was a collector of model cars and had quite the collection. He worked hard to provide for his family and was the sole bread winner. Friends were important to him and he enjoyed spending time with them.

He was also in the Knights of Columbus and had completed all the levels.

The funeral service will be at Korban Funeral Chapel on Saturday, May 11th, 2024 at 11:00 am in Winnipeg. His children and grandchildren are the pallbearers. Interment will be at the Riverside Cemetery - Dauphin, MB on Monday, May 13th, 2024 at 1:00 pm.

Donations in Dennis's memory may be offered as masses for him and his family at any Catholic Church of your choice.

Until we meet again, may God hold you in his care and may you always be a bright light no matter where you are.

The family expresses their gratitude to the doctors and nurses at the Winnipeg Cancer Care Center, St. Boniface Hospital, Concordia Hospital, and Palliative Care for their compassion during this difficult time.
