Derek Tkachuk Obituary

After a lengthy fight against cancer Derek lost his battle on December 20, 2021.

Derek leaves to mourn his girlfriend Celine Harris, his parents Maurice and Pat Tkachuk, ex-wife Rehannon, children; Cole, Graeson and Nash, sister Deanna, her husband Timothy Jablonski, nephews; Jesse and Owen, niece Haley and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Derek was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on April 13, 1984.  He graduated Shevchenko School in 2002.

Growing up Derek played hockey and baseball.  He loved video games and sports, hanging out with friends.  His goal in life with work was to be a driller and after many years of different positions and companies on the rigs, he got his place as a directional driller.

Derek was serious but also always smiling and cracking jokes.  Fishing and hunting were important to him, whether it was with his buddies or loved ones.  His dream was to get that big buck, and this fall he got that 5 pointer of his dreams with his sister.

His cancer diagnosis was a shock but he was always optimistic, stubborn and positive minded throughout many various treatments and procedures, he never gave up.

His girlfriend Celine brought him so much joy, they have had many adventures camping and travelling to the mountains together.  She came into his life at a time when he needed her most and she was by his side the entire time right to the end.

As a father he loved his boys and was proud of their achievements through school and sports, sitting at many baseball games cheering them on.  The family he created with Rehannon will live on.  She was always supportive and there when he needed her.

Pool time, the beach, baseball and video games he loved spending time with his nephews and niece.  Family was important and many days we spent playing crib or lawn darts, bonfires and hunting or ice fishing.  Golf was his favorite in the summer.

He loved his cat Francis even though if you’d ask, he’d deny it.

To the end Derek was still up for a game of cards and that last old fashioned.  He always put time for everyone first.  Leaving behind his way of making his favorite drink to the ones he loved most.  Raise that glass and toast to his memory.

Special thanks to the Cancer Care nurses of BTHC.  All his family and friends that helped and supported him.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Cancer Care Manitoba.
