Dmytro Samec Obituary

Dmytro Samec

December 10, 1921 – February 17, 2023

Our father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away on February 17, 2023, at the age of 101.

He was predeceased by his wife Anne, his parents Maria and Michal, sisters Yanka and Stefka and brother Stefan.

Left to cherish with memories are daughter Sonia Tomchuk (Don)son Mike Samec (Lesia), daughter Jean Gillich (Andy)  grandchildren Cynthia Long (Christopher), Christine Rogers, Kurtis Tomchak (Amanda) Irene Alarie (Mike), Matthew Danyluk and Stephanie Danyluk-Fernando (Spencer)  and nine great-grandchildren, Victoria, Cameron, Talia, Kaylie, Ethan, Ashley, Taylor, Brooklyn and Jackson.   He also has a surviving nephew Victor Czub in Winnipeg and numerous nephews and nieces in Ukraine.

Dad was born in Hlyscheva, Trymbowla, Galicia Ukraine and then immigrated to Germany, Belgium and then to Canada in 1947.  He had various jobs and his last job was with C P Railway which he retired from due to his health. He enjoyed spending time with the family and having coffee at the mall with his friends.  Once he reached the middle 90s his health began to fail.  He was very lonely and unhappy towards the end.  All his friends were gone.

We would like to thank the hospital staff at Seven Oaks for all that they did to keep dad comfortable, to Father Dmytro for officiating the funeral and to Korban Funeral Home for the burial.

We will miss our father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

May he be granted eternal peace.  Vichnaya Pamyat.
