In Loving Memory of Donald “Don” Lewicki
It is with deep sorrow that the family of Donald Lewicki announces his passing on November 11, 2025.
Don was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Anne Lewicki, and is lovingly remembered by his family: Jeff and Keri with Sydney and Jackson Lewicki; Kevin and Anna with Elise and Finn Lewicki; and his brother, Kenneth Lewicki. He also leaves behind many extended family members and friends who will miss him deeply.
Raised in West Kildonan, Don attended Garden City Collegiate before continuing his education at university, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree. Though capable in many fields, Don felt a deeper calling to serve. Inspired by his Uncle Morris, he began his firefighting career on November 25, 1974. Over the next 32 years and 2 months, he served his community with unwavering dedication, courage, and compassion. He retired with honour as a Captain on January 21, 2007, proud of the work he had done and the lives he had touched.
On June 18, 1977, Don married the love of his life, Beverley Choma. No matter where life took him, he remained a devoted husband through every chapter, standing faithfully beside Bev.
Together, Don and Bev created many cherished memories with the close neighbours on Serenity Cove, where friendship, laughter, and a strong sense of community filled the years.
In 1995, Don and Bev fulfilled a long-held dream when they bought a cabin—a place that quickly became their sanctuary. Don, an avid fisherman and hunter, spent countless peaceful days outdoors with his loyal companion, his dog Buddy. At the cabin, he was always ready for a game of crib and made time for anyone who wanted to join him at the table.
They also cultivated a garden that brought them joy season after season. Don enjoyed feeding the birds and squirrels in his backyard, even if he never quite managed to outsmart the raccoons who insisted on helping themselves.
He loved traveling, especially when it meant visiting his son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren in Germany. Don treasured every moment spent with his grandchildren. He loved watching Jack at hockey games and Sydney at her dance recitals, and he never tired of the endless video calls with Elise and Finn in Germany. Whether throwing a baseball, playing street hockey, or sharing a laugh, his grandchildren brought him immeasurable joy.
At family gatherings and parties, Don’s lively spirit earned him the nickname “Jumping Jack Flash,” a perfect reflection of the energy and joy he brought wherever he went.
Don leaves behind a lasting legacy of kindness, service, resilience, and love. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
At Don’s request, cremation has taken place. A small private gathering will be held to honour and celebrate the cherished memories the family holds of him.
His sons would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the many family members, friends, and coworkers who have compassionately supported them during this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to CancerCare Manitoba in Don’s honour.
May he rest in peace.
