Doreen Musick Obituary

Doreen Musick, FRI. CMR.

With family’s love and prayers, Doreen Musick passed away suddenly on Saturday, January 16, 2021, at Health Sciences Centre in her 94th year. Doreen Musick, beloved wife of Boris Musick, was born on May 10th, 1926, to Harry and Anne Huminicki, the youngest of their 7 children.

From humble beginnings in a log house in Winnipeg Beach, Manitoba, Doreen grew up working on the Huminicki family farm, attended Prout School, and came to Winnipeg in her teenage years to attend high school. On November 5th, 1949 at the age of 23, she married Boris Musick. For several years she was employed as a proofreader at The Winnipeg Free Press, alongside her husband. While raising four children, she started working as a realtor at Metro Agencies. Not long thereafter, in 1977, she established Area Realty, as broker and founding partner with her husband, Boris Musick, LLB.  She continued her studies, earning her FRI designation with the Real Estate Institute of Canada. She was a long-time member of Independent Real Estate Brokers of Manitoba and Toastmasters, and she operated Area Realty for more than 43 years, until her death.

To complement her very dynamic and rewarding Real Estate career, Doreen was a consummate gardener and cook, enjoyed dancing, and had a passion for reading. She loved to travel, enjoying many trips camping in the U.S.A. with Boris and their children, numerous trips to Florida, Hawaii, Ukraine, Greece, a Western Caribbean cruise, and a Mediterranean cruise including side trips to Turkey and Egypt. Doreen was very proud of her Ukrainian heritage, language and culture, and took extreme joy in preparing a wonderful traditional Ukrainian Christmas Eve dinner celebration for her family every year.

Doreen leaves to mourn in her passing her four beloved children, Marina Witnicki (Myron), Gregory, Philip (Margaret), and Terence; two cherished granddaughters Larysa and Cassandra, her brother-in-law Myron Musick (Irene), as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Doreen was predeceased by her husband of 38 years, Boris; her father Harry Huminicki; her mother Anne Huminicki (Atamaniuk); and six siblings: Paul Huminicki, Walter Huminicki, Christine Nazimek, Mary Trach, Pearl Senick, Nicholas Huminicki; and her niece Patricia Tennescoe.

Due to current Covid restrictions, a private family Funeral Liturgy and Panakhyda will be sung at 1 p.m., Monday January 25, 2021 at Saint Basil’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, 202 Harcourt Street, Winnipeg, where Doreen was a devout parishioner and member of the Ukrainian Catholic Womens League (UCWLC).
Rev. Mykhaylo Khomitskyy, OSBM, will be officiating the liturgy which will be live streamed on the church’s YouTube page. Interment to follow at All Saints Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, West St. Paul, Manitoba.

Honorary pallbearers are Myron Musick, Patrick Huminicki, Larry Trach, David Huminicki, Wayne Senick, Robert Senick, and Bill Huminicki.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Doreen's memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.

May God grant her eternal peace!
