Frederick William Coakes Sr.

Frederick William Coakes Sr., aged 90, passed away peacefully at Grace Hospital on Wednesday, September 11, 2024.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Irene, and their three children: Maureen Taylor (Ted),  Sandra Gietz (Dirk), and Fred Coakes Jr. (Marlo). Fred was a proud grandfather, great-grandfather, and an uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Fred lived for Irene and treasured every visit from his children, grandchildren, great grand daughter, extended family, and friends. His greatest wish was to be surrounded by his loved ones until the very end, and in true Fred fashion, he made that happen. He couldn't have written a better ending, being with his family until his final moments.

Even as his body weakened, Fred’s mind remained sharp. He faced every challenge with extraordinary courage and strength, finding comfort in the love of his family, who meant the world to him. He cherished every moment with them.

His family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff at HSC, Misericordia Transitional Unit, Grace Hospital and Tuxedo Villa. Those who got to know him, quickly realized they were in the presence of a truly special man. Fred’s kind heart and incredible sense of humor never wavered.

Cremation has already taken place, and in accordance with Fred's wishes, there will be no funeral. His family will honour his memory privately, as he requested.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, CancerCare, or the Kidney Foundation in Fred's memory.

Fred, Dad, Grandpa, Great Grandpa—we love you and will miss you dearly. Bye for now.
