Name: Hubert Cornliffe Young
Date of Birth: January 18, 1930
Date of Death: February 1, 2020
Suddenly, on February 1, Hubert passed away in Winnipeg two weeks after his 90th birthday. He leaves his wife, Joycelyn; his children Hubert (Linda), Gale, Brent, and Gregory (Buhle); his grandchildren Savanna, Alex, Justus, and Nyssa; his step-grandchildren Rick, Vanessa, Tim, and Rob; his great-grandchildren Oriana, Tiana and Violet; his siblings Monty, Byron (Lucille), Edith and Maggie; his in-laws, the Sam and Jaikaran families; a host of relatives and many friends. He was predeceased by his parents Hubert and Rebecca Young, his son Wayne and his sister Octavia Sam.
Hubert was born on January 18, 1930 in Charlotteville, Tobago. Later he moved to Trinidad, where he met Joycelyn. They were married in April 1954, and soon four children were added to their home. Desiring to give his family more opportunity, they left the warmth of the Caribbean for Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada in 1967.
An electrician by trade, Hubert started his career in Trinidad and continued in Canada, retiring in 1993 from CN Rail. He was often called to assist friends with electrical issues at home and at church. For many years, he was an active volunteer in his church in many roles. He was especially passionate about music and the Pathfinder Club.
He is fondly remembered for his bright smile, his jovial spirit and the kindness shown to many.
Special thanks to the wonderful paramedics, to Dr. Schellenberg and the ER staff at Health Sciences Centre for their compassionate care of Hubert. Thank you to the De Silva family for your friendship.
