JJ Haywood

Jonas Joshuah Dustin Ross Haywood, better known as JJ, of Winnipeg, died tragically on June 21, 2023.

JJ was 17 years old - definitely gone too soon. He was deeply loved and will be terribly missed by his beloved girlfriend Brianna and their unborn son, his mother Tanis Shuttleworth, his sister Randi Haywood and his father, Dustin Haywood.  He’s also forever in the hearts of his grandparents, Penny and Jonas Haywood, and John and Anne Shuttleworth as well as Mike Medwick (Tanis’ partner), and his children, Kayla and Payton.  His many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends, too many to list, will cherish his memory and the memories they created with him.

JJ had a big smile for the people he loved and with that great smile and his great sense of humor, he won over almost everyone he met. He could be a bit of a chatterbox but in a fun and happy way.  He was a jokester and he made us laugh. His laughter was infectious, and he brought joy to everyone.

JJ was a phenomenal musician and artist. Playing his guitars for his friends in his room was one of his favourite things to do. Many of us will remember him on stage playing his guitar while hiding under his hat, but always rocking hard and loud in his room. Now JJ is playing his favourite songs with his musical heroes in the sky. 

At the time of his death JJ was working hard at Salisbury House and saving every cent he could for his family – him, his girlfriend Brianna, and their baby - expected to arrive in October – also to go by JJ. He was young but excited to be a father and working hard to be able to support this life he was creating. 

We are grateful that another JJ will come into this world.  This world needs more JJs.

JJ’s family would like to say thank you to all the people that tried valiantly to save his life: the Winnipeg police, the samaritan on the street, the paramedics and the wonderful staff and surgeons and nurses at HSC, as well as JJs family doctor and close friend.  They gave those that loved JJ a bit of time to say goodbye.
