Jan Karchut Obituary

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather Jan Karchut on December 30, 2020 at the age of 88.

Jan leaves to cherish his warm and loving memories with his beloved wife Anna, children Maria (Rev. Protodeacon Stefan) Tyrawski, Irena (Andrzej) Duplak, Piotr (Elizabeth) Karchut; grandchildren Bohdan Tyrawski, Oksana Unilowsky, Dr. Kamila Duplak (Marcin Pacak), Steven Duplak (Stephanie Mazzon), Austen, Amelia, and Craig Karchut and great grandson Christian Unilowsky. He will also be sadly missed by his sisters Agata Werbowa and Stefania Hrycko, brother Bogdan (Nadzieja) Karhut, and extended family throughout Canada, Poland and England.

Jan was born on January 15, 1932 in Tuchla, Western Ukraine. He married the love of his life Anna on January 23, 1960 and together they worked on their family farm in Dlugobor, Poland. With the sponsorship of his sister in-law Nadzieja Monaco and the Late Joe Monaco, Jan and Anna along with their three children immigrated to Canada and settled in Winnipeg in 1981. He worked as a roofer at Aetna Roofing and Master Roofing, and thereafter retired to be a proud caregiver to his grandchildren. He was also lucky enough to even spend some time with his great grandson.

Jan lived an active life and enjoyed the outdoors especially exploring Winnipeg on his bicycle, going to the Casino, and playing Bingo. He was always full of life and had such a great sense of humour. He enjoyed telling his family stories of his life in the army as a young man in Poland. Family meant the absolute world to him.

The family would like to express their most sincere thank you to Dr. Roman Koczanski, Concordia Hospital Unit 2 East, and Deer Lodge Centre Unit 4 East for their continuous care. We also want to thank Rev. Fr. Isidore Dziadyk OSBM and Basilian Fathers for their visits, care, and prayers. Lastly, we thank our Lord for the wonderful gift of our Husband, Tato, Dido, and Pra-Dido. We are grateful for his precious time with all of us.

Jan now joins our Lord in heaven with his parents Michal and Anna, brothers Jozef, Teodor and Wladyslaw Karhut, sister Kataryna Gbur, and in-laws Michal and Maria Kowalczyk, and grandson in-law Russell Unilowsky

May our Husband, Tato, and Dido Rest in Eternal Peace, forever in our memory. Vichnaya Pamyat - Eternal Memory.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jan’s memory to the St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church Maintenance Fund.
