Janet Mary Werbiski
It is with great sadness to announce the peaceful passing of a beloved sister, aunt, and great-aunt at Park Manor Personal Care Home in Winnipeg at the age of 88.
Janet was born in Sioux Lookout on January 15, 1935, to Peter and Lena (nee Hrushowy), the second oldest of four siblings. She is pre-deceased by her parents, brother Anthony (Tony), Stan, and is survived by brother Phil Werbiski, along with many nieces and nephews.
After completing secondary school in Sioux Lookout, Janet attended Victoria Hospital School of Nursing, graduating with an RN designation in 1959. She served a fulfilling and proud nursing career for 38 years at the Grace Hospital, then later at Concordia Hospital.
Janet will always be remembered for helping her family, especially her elderly parents. She had a deep love for nature and wildlife, especially birds and all animals. Anything with feathers or a fury tail was fed, loved and appreciated. In her retirement years, her two lab retrievers and then a golden retriever lead Janet for years to remote beaches, Oak Hammock Marsh, Winnipeg City Parks, Manitoba lakes and beyond, also enjoying many car trips to Ontario and Alberta. Janet also loved crafts, healthy cooking, and plants, in addition to always keeping up with daily local and worldly news.
Special thanks to the staff at Deer Lodge Centre, then Park Manor for their dedication, and compassionate care.
In keeping with Janet’s wishes, cremation has taken place with a private interment gathering to be held over the summer.
If friends so desire, donations can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society.
