Jaroslawa Palamartchuk Obituary

Jaroslawa “Sylvia” Palamartchuk passed away on Thursday, October 20th, at the age of 96.

She leaves behind her daughter Nadya (Carmine), six grandchildren; Sara (Eric), Vera, Lara, Renata (Mykola), Larisa (Richard), and Denis (Pam), seven great-grandchildren; Kalyna, Larysa, Olenka, Matthew, Petra, Sofia, and Luke, as well as her nieces; Melody (Al) and Yaroslawa (Grigorii). She was predeceased by her oldest daughter, Halyna (Jury) and her husband, Osyp Palamartchuk.

Jaroslawa was born on June 19th, 1926, in the town of Lublianky Nyzhshi, near Zbaryzh in the Ternopil Region, in Ukraine. She moved to Canada in 1948, where she settled in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and stayed there for the duration of her life. She ran several businesses, most ‘famously’ her Pinky’s Laundromat, where she worked until she was eighty-eight years old. Throughout her life, she was active in the Ukrainian Canadian community. She held senior posts in the League for Freedom of Ukraine, The Prosvita Institute, Ukrainian Canadian Committee in Winnipeg, and was a founding member of The Ukrainian Children’s Theatre group. She also served as a member and chair of the National Board of the Ukrainian Canadian Committee.

She will be remembered for her kindness, compassion for people, hard-working nature, courage to speak her mind, and her love for both Canada and Ukraine. She will be missed immensely by those who knew her.

Family, friends, and others whose lives Jaroslawa touched are invited to attend her Funeral Service at Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church, 965 Boyd Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, on Saturday, October 29th, 2022, at 10:00 am. Interment will later follow at All Saints Cemetery, 4515 Main Street, Winnipeg, MB.

In lieu of flowers, Jaroslawa wished contributions to be made to any one of her charities: Ukrainian Echo (Гомін України), St. Andrews Ukrainian Catholic Church (Winnipeg), Ukrainian Youth organization Plast, and Ukrainian Youth Organization SUM.  Donations can also be made to Canada Ukraine Foundation – Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.

We pray, may the heavenly Father accept her soul into His everlasting Grace, and may the Canadian soil grant her the peace and comfort she deserves.

Vichnaya Pamyat.

May she live in Eternal Memory.
