Jeannette Foot Obituary

It is with great sadness that we share the news that our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend left us for the loving embrace of our Lord on Thursday, March 6.

Jeannette was predeceased by her parents, Arcade and Caroline Lambert, sisters Yolande and Marguerite, brothers Denis and Alan, and nephews Keith, Bryan and Bruce.

Left to morn are her devoted husband Jack, her children, Randy (Gail), Lindsy (Steve), Allen (Heidy) and Brendon (Jennifer), grandchildren Justin, Brittany (Mark), Melody (Chris), Devon (Morgan), Kelsey (Keith), Andrew (Brianne), Danielle and Sara, her great grandchildren Alice, Quinn, Ethan, and Scarlett, sisters Helen and Gail, brothers Maurice and Francois, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and cherished friends.

Jeannette was born on January 4, 1938, in Fir Mountain Saskatchewan. At the age of 4, she moved to Winnipeg with her family and lived on Pandora in Transcona until she married.

Jeannette met the love of her life, Jack, in 1956. Their first date was on New Year’s Eve of that year. That date has always been special to her, and she never failed to celebrate the occasion in some way. Jeannette and Jack married on July 6, 1958, built their dream home on Kildare in Transcona and proceeded to fill it with children. She was never happier than when she had a baby in her arms and anxiously awaited the arrival of each new addition to the family.

Jeannette had a passion for growing things. She had many houseplants that she babied, a vegetable garden that was the envy of her friends and her flower gardens bloomed from early spring to late fall. Jeannette’s favourite flowers were her roses, especially the yellow ones, which to her signified happiness, light and the presence of her guardian angel. In the fall, her pantry was full to bursting with canned goods, the freezer stocked with fruits and vegetables that would last through to the next summer. Jeannette passed on her love of growing things to her children and grandchildren. Even her great grandchildren could be found, spades and watering cans in hand, searching the gardens for all things edible.

Jeannette’s other passion was helping others, whether it was visiting the sick, making food for the hungry, knitting lap wraps and baby blankets, organizing Christmas parties for group homes, raising funds for causes or petitioning the government to enact laws that protect the vulnerable. She always said that she received much more than she gave when she was helping others.

Jeannette loved music. She loved to sing and harmonize, and belonged to many choirs, but her happiest memories were of times gathered around the piano with her family, singing the old tunes. She loved to dance, was the first one on the dance floor and the last to leave. The twinkle in her eyes when she could combine those two loves was contagious and soon the whole group was singing and dancing along with her.

Jeannette was a beautiful soul, a loving wife and mother, a trusted friend. She was loved by all and will be missed. A Celebration of Life in her honour will be held on April 5th at 11:00 am at St. Joseph the Worker Church in Transcona, with interment at Green Acres following a light lunch.

Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let Your perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace.
