He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Gisela as well as his children; Herbert (Sandra), Margaret, Helmut (Peggy), daughter-in-law Kelly, John (Bridget), Rose (Alan), Karen (Cory), David.  He will be dearly missed by his grandchildren; Susan (Colin), Jennifer (Karl), Cameron (Katrina), Burton (Kate), Bobby, Tyson (Laura), Dallas, Carly (Tanner), Julia (Trevor), Eric and great-grandchildren; Taylor, Dylan, Sydney, Liam, Austin, Tavis and Bennett.  He is also survived by his sisters; Bernadine Mueller, Agnes (Edward) Hiller, sister-in-law Annie Kinzel, and numerous nieces and nephews.

John and Gisela were married in February of 1954 and then embarked on the long journey of coming to Canada in August 1954. They made their home in Whitemouth, Manitoba where they farmed and raised eight children.

In 1982 they sold their dairy farm in Whitemouth and moved to Anola, Manitoba to a hobby farm. They lived on the hobby farm until 2008 when they moved to Beausejour, Manitoba. Dad was a hard-working man who instilled his work ethic in all his children. He was a family man, kind, and humble. He was a man of God, who placed trust in his faith above all else.
