JOSEPH (JOE) NICHOLAS EWANOCHKO
June 5, 1935 – November 9, 2020
With great sadness we announce the unexpected passing of Joe at the age of 85 years. Joe was born and raised in Elma, Manitoba, where he met and married the love of his life, Helen. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather (Gigi). Family was so important to Joe, and he was always there for anyone who needed him.
He loved having his family around him and enjoyed cooking for them. We will all miss his perogies and fish from Christmas Eve dinners, his savoury garlic buns, BBQ’d short ribs and tapioca pudding. He enjoyed watching cooking shows and loved to experiment with recipes, adding his own special ingredients.
A jack-of-all trades, he could fix anything, and never turned down a challenge to restore anything to good working condition using spare parts found in his garage. His garage was his tool box!
Joe loved listening to music, especially old time Country and Western tunes, to which he knew all the words and sang along to. He loved dancing with Helen to all those great Ukrainian polkas. They were such a loving couple, especially during these past three years when they had to live apart. Their love grew even stronger during this time.
Our dad and grandpa taught us the value of hard work and never giving up. He showed us love and never ending support. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren grow up, and supported all of their endeavours. He was very proud of them. Recently, his two great grandsons brought him much joy and laughter.
Joe will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 66 years, Helen; sons Russ (Susan), Glenn, and Allan; grandchildren Melissa (Dan), Nick (Jazmin), Cheyenne (Josh), Zenya; and his great grandsons Zach and Dylan.
The family wishes to thank the hardworking staff at the Maples PCH and the Dialysis staff at Seven Oaks Hospital for their care of Joseph.
Funeral service will be held at a later date.
