Linda Paterson
May 15, 1945 - July 9, 2023
It is with great sadness that we share that Linda Louise Paterson passed away on Sunday, July 9th at St. Boniface Hospital.
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter Cathryn (Tim), her son Colin (Janet), stepchildren Karen, Catherine, Shelly and their respective family members, maternal grandchildren Jolene, Carter, and Noah, her brother Jim, and nephew Jamie, as well as many extended family members.
Linda was predeceased by her husband Reynald (Rey) Lauze and granddaughter Hailey Paterson whom she missed greatly.
Once Linda retired from her position as an X-ray Technologist at Abbott Clinic, she joined Rey in building his company, MorningStar Manufacturing – Kramer Lake Tackle. They absolutely adored working side by side, on their property in Anola, Manitoba, manufacturing fishing tackle.
Linda expressed her admirable creativity through numerous crafts over the years. Long before the popular trend, Linda had a way with macrame. Other outlets for her creative energy were her works in folk-art painting, water painting, and sewing. Mom often sewed outfits for herself, her children and later her grandchildren. She also loved to knit and knitted many beautiful sweaters and blankets to keep family members warm. More recently, Linda began loop knitting and kept herself very busy over the winter months knitting more than 500 toques for Coats for Kids and Siloam Mission. There is one more box of hats ready to be donated this fall that were lovingly knit this last winter.
The highlight of Linda’s creative talents showed in her quilting. She took such pride in choosing just the right fabric combination of colours and design to make the most attractive quilts. It brought her such joy to stitch quilts, wall hangings, placemats, and table runners and gift them to family and friends. Her love of quilting connected her to another quilter in New Zealand, and though they never met in person, they developed a kindred friendship sharing quilt patterns, and fabrics and conversations of their families.
Gardening was a passion Linda and Rey shared. Together they spent countless hours creating the most delightful flower garden at their home in Anola. Once they sold their home, Linda continued to create a beautiful garden at the lake, and on the balcony of their condo.
Given Linda’s creativity, a summer vacation at the lake as youngsters was never without a few crafts to do. Over the years, Linda’s love of knitting was passed on to her daughter, Cathy and Linda’s green thumb and passion of gardening was passed on to her son, Colin.
We imagine Linda and Rey are reunited and are sitting on a boat in the middle of the lake. Rey is quietly fishing, and mom is hand stitching some squares for a quilt, while Brindi, their dog, is curled up at their feet napping.
Mom, you will be greatly missed and have left an enormous void in our hearts. We will wrap ourselves a little tighter in our quilts and forever cherish the memories.
The family would like to thank the Emergency Department and Unit E4 at St. Boniface Hospital for their care and compassion with our mom.
A Celebration of Life for Linda will be planned for a later date.
