It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Lorraine "Laurie" Michael on June 12, 2026, at St. Joseph’s Residence, at the age of 81.

Laurie was predeceased by her father, Roy Michael; her parents, Margaret and Graham Crerar; and her brother, Grant Michael. She will be lovingly remembered by her sister, Joyce, who cared for Laurie during her final years at St. Joseph’s Residence, as well as by her nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephew, extended family, and many friends.

Laurie lived an independent life filled with the things she loved most. She never married or had children, but she shared a special bond with her friends and beloved pets. Throughout her life, animals brought her great joy, from her childhood love of horses and horse racing to the cats and dogs she cherished as an adult, including Chipper, Willy, and Ollie.

Laurie had a lifelong passion for sports and especially enjoyed playing baseball, ringette, and hockey. She also enjoyed playing pool, cribbage, cards, fishing, camping, and travelling. Those who knew Laurie will remember the enthusiasm and energy she brought to the activities she loved.

Laurie dedicated more than 35 years of service to Canadian Blood Services as a transport driver. Her work reflected her strong sense of responsibility, dedication, and care for others.

One of Laurie’s greatest joys in life was her love for Elvis Presley and his music. Even during her journey with dementia, Elvis’s music remained close to her heart. Though many memories faded, she could still sing along to his songs, bringing comfort, joy, and smiles to those around her.

Laurie will be remembered for her quiet strength, her love of animals, her passion for sports and music, and the many memories she leaves behind with those who knew and loved her.

May she rest peacefully and forever be remembered with love.

A Funeral Service for Laurie will be held on June 17, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba. Following cremation, her ashes will be interred with her parents at Binscarth Cemetery.

The family extends its heartfelt thanks to the staff at St. Joseph’s Residence for their care, compassion, and kindness.
