Lucille Falvo Obituary

Lucille Marie Falvo

May 4, 1929 – November 27, 2023

A special Angel received her wings!

Mom passed away peacefully at Concordia Hospital on November 27, 2023 at the age of 94.  Family and friends are left with such heavy hearts but are comforted knowing she has reunited with her husband Bruno and other family and friends.

Cherishing mom’s memory are son Lorry (Josie), daughter Gail (Dale), Cathie, grandchildren Shayla (Dave), Abby (Lar), great grandchildren Kyran, Zoey and Nova.  Mom is survived by her sister Bertha, brothers-in-law Henry, Joe and Otto, sister-in-law Angie and many nieces, nephews and friends.

On May 4, 1929, mom was born to parents Anna-Marie and Michel Bouchard.  She lived in Letellier, Manitoba with her 5 siblings, Jeannette, Lily, Bertha, Margaret and Paul.  At the age of 12 the family moved to Winnipeg and at the age of 16 mom began working at Northern Shirt as a sewer.  Sewing remained a passion of hers and she sewed countless outfits, costumes and doll clothes throughout most of her lifetime.  At the age of 17 she worked at Sunset Bag as a printer.

Mom met dad in 1949 and they married on July 15, 1950.   At the time of dad’s passing in 2021, they were married almost 71 years.  Mom and dad made their home in Transcona where they started their family.   Mom stayed home several years to raise the kids but returned to the workforce in 1964, when she began her 25 year retail career at Clarks/Gambles/Zellers eventually retiring in 1989.  In 1998, mom and dad moved to Rivergrove.

Although times were tough in the early years of marriage, mom and dad worked hard to provide for the family.   She loved cooking and baking for family gatherings, making sure everyone’s preferences were met.  Her delicious nanaimo bars, a Christmas favourite, amazing coleslaw and beyond tasty homemade spaghetti sauce were always a hit.  For over 50 years she remained a huge fan of The Young and the Restless and knew the characters like family.  In 1978, mom and dad’s dream came true when they purchased a lakeside cottage at Betula Lake where, to this day, the family continues to enjoy.  The cottage was rebuilt in 1988.  As usual mom and dad took pride in making it a cozy home away from home for all to enjoy and we will continue to enjoy in their memory.  At the lake, mom liked boat rides, walks, rainstorms and sunsets.  She would sit in the veranda or on the dock and watch as family enjoyed swimming, boating and water skiing.  She kept busy cooking, cleaning, decorating, gardening and collecting twigs for evening fires around the fire pit.  In the past few years she also spent a lot of time at her daughter’s summer getaway at Spruce Sands where reading, people watching and golf cart rides to the beach or for ice cream were favourite pastimes.

Mom always loved family time especially with the grandchildren and great grandchildren. They always brought a smile to her face and filled her heart with love and I know they felt the same.  The family pets were always guaranteed a good scratch behind the ears too.  Mom loved greeting cards and would spend hours reading those received over the years.  Christmas baking with her daughter was a tradition they both looked forward to.

Mom had a quiet and shy personality.  Described as the heart of the family, she always doted on everyone and never sat down until she was sure everyone had everything they wanted.  She was kind hearted, generous, caring, compassionate and so considerate of others.  Daily chats, her gentle smile, her strength to overcome, her strong will and her sense of humour will be missed but never forgotten.

Big thanks to Dr. Kristen Scott for her support and care of mom.  A special thanks to the Doctors and Nursing Team in the N1 North Ward at Concordia Hospital for their kindness, compassion and keeping mom comfortable.
