With sorrow and gratitude, we remember the life of Marcia (Marusia) Pawlyshyn, who left this world on June 4, 2026, at the age of 93. She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. She leaves behind a lifetime of memories and a family forever grateful for her love.

Marcia was born in Winnipeg in October 1932 and was the only cherished daughter of William and Petronella Didyk. She grew up in Poplarfield, MB. When the time came for high school her father purchased a house and moved the family to Winnipeg. She attended Daniel McIntyre High School. After high school she attended Normal School and taught in a one room school house for one long year. She realized that teaching was not for her. Marcia met her prince charming Peter in Elma, MB.  They were married in 1954 at Christ the King Ukrainian Catholic Church in Winnipeg. They lived in Elma before Dad found work in the city. They moved to her childhood home to raise their growing family and care for her elderly parents until they passed away. Once all of us kids were teenagers and somewhat self sufficient she went to work for SAM Management for many years. Mom and Dad had the opportunity to travel to several Canadian cities, some USA destinations following Peter Jr's dance career, Ukraine, Ireland and England. Mom retired and cared for Dad who's health was slowly declining. Being a Baba was her greatest joy. She was never the same (in a good way) after Matthew was born. And life just got better and better when Andrew, Gabe and Steven arrived. She loved her boys immensely. The great grandchildren were just the icing on the cake. Mom and Dad liked to entertain at the holidays and special occasions. The annual Christmas open house in January was epic. IYKYK. No one ever walked away hungry. 

Marcia was a woman of great strength and unwavering in her Catholic faith that was central to her life. Mom was a lifetime member of the UCWLC women's league. She was generous with her time and resources by caring for others in need, supporting her favourite causes and staying in touch with extended family and friends. The kitchen table was most often the center for long chats and coffee, reading the daily paper and doing the crossword puzzles. We will miss those times chatting, crying sometimes and laughing often. Mom had a great laugh. She remained in her home after Dad passed away in 2009. In 2017 with some prompting she sold her home and moved to Villa Aulneau assisted living. She loved her apartment especially the great view of the neighbourhood. Many lovely and special friendships were made there. In 2024 she moved to Holy Family Home where she could receive the increasing care she required. She loved her time at HFH. She always said how good her life was and how grateful she was able to live in such wonderful places. Both places felt like home.

Remaining to forever cherish and honour Marcia's memory is her son Eric (Theresa), daughters Barbara and Lynda, grandsons Matthew (Lauren), Andrew (Lindsay), Gabriele  (Jenna), Steven and the great grandchildren Dylan, Connor, Luke, Harlow and Hayden. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.

Marcia was predeceased by her husband Peter, infant son Gary, son Peter, parents William and Petronella Didyk, parents in law Fred and Annie Pawlyshyn, sisters in law  Nettie Proceviat, Margaret Turchyn, Sophie Pawlyshyn and Eva Cooley, brothers in law Harry Pawlyshyn, John Proceviat, Bill Turchyn, Russ Cooley, nephews and dear friends.

Marcia lived her life with strength and grace and even in the difficult times in her life she met life with patience, humility, compassion and kindness.

Sincerest gratitude goes to Fr. Bohdan Lukie for his visits, prayers and kindness, Fr. Walter Klimchuk for his friendship and continuous prayers and Fr. Mark Gnutel for performing the Sacrament of Annointing the Sick just hours before Mom passed away.

We would be remiss if we did not mention the exceptional care mom received from her nurse practitioners at Access downtown, WRHA home care providers, Dr. T. Babick, the front line health care aides and nurses on 3A St. Anne's at HFH. We cannot thank you enough for the kind and gentle loving care you provided our mother these past years. You are truly angels here on earth. God bless you. Mom loved all of you.

Funeral Parastas service will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2026 at 7:00 pm at St Joseph's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 250 Jefferson Ave, Winnipeg, with Fr. Bohdan Lukie officiating. The service will be live streamed on www.korbanchapel.com. Graveside service and burial on Friday, June 19, 2026 at 11:00 am at Holy Cross Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery in Elma, MB.
