Maria Booyar Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Maria Booyar (nee Koval) on December 25, 2020 at the age of 90.

Maria is survived by her loving and loyal husband Bohdan, her two daughters Natalia and Olya, her sons-in-law, Alex Rybak and Roman Rybak, her four grandchildren Maxim, Nina, Serhiy, Oleh and great grandchildren, Moe, Juno and Sienna.  Also mourning Maria’s passing are her sister Stefania, with nieces, and nephews in Ukraine, and her many friends in Winnipeg and in Australia.

Maria was born November 2, 1930 in the village of Zahirya, Lvivska Oblast, Ukraine. She married her husband Bohdan in 1960 and the family emigrated to Winnipeg, Canada in 1976 to reunite with her husband’s parents Natalia and Michael Pushkar. Maria was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was very proud of her Ukrainian heritage, her family, house and her ‘horod’ - especially her tomatoes.  Maria was a parishioner and regular member of the congregation at the Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral of Sts Volodymyr and Olha.

Maria was an unwavering servant of God and was dedicated to her family. The love she had for her daughters Natalia and Olya and especially for her four grandchildren Maxim, Nina, Serhiy and Oleh and later her great grandchildren gave her the strength to have a long and beautiful life.

Thank you to the entire St. Francis’ ward staff at Holy Family Home for all their love, patience and compassionate care.

Lastly, we thank our Lord for the wonderful gift of our Mama, Baba and Prababa. We are grateful for her beautiful and precious life.

Due to the COVID-19 restrictions in Manitoba, the Panachyda and Divine Liturgy will be sung privately at 10.30am on Wednesday, December 30 at the Ukrainian Catholic Metropolitan Cathedral of Sts. Volodymr and Olha with interment followed at All Saints Cemetery. The Panachyda and Divine Liturgy will be streamed on the Cathedral’s YouTube website.

The interment will be live-streamed on the Korban Funeral Home website.  Click on the Facebook logo on the top left hand corner and it will connect you to our Facebook page.

May our Mama, Baba and Prababa Rest in Eternal Peace, forever in our memory.
