Maria (Myrtle) Tostowaryk
We, the Tostowaryk family, sadly announce the peaceful passing of Maria (Myrtle) Tostowaryk (Long), at the Riverview Health Center on Tuesday, June 22, 2021. She was 97 years of age.
Myrtle was born in Arbakka, Manitoba on January 19, 1924 to parents Nykola and Wasylka Tostowaryk. She is predeceased by her parents, siblings Bill and Jenny who died in their first year of life, her husband Harry Long, brothers: Mike, George, Sydney and Mytro and sister Dorothy, brother-in-law Bob Lowry, sisters-in-law; Lois, Elsie and Bernice, stepdaughter Irene Long.
Myrtle is survived by her sisters; Alice Lowry and Betty (Ken Wickman), brothers; Walter (Joan) and Dennis, stepdaughter Louise (Les Dalke) and sister-in-law Doris Tostowaryk.
She was a cherished aunt of Helen, (Kester Hamitton), Karen (Steve Lubin), Marion (Hanna Kawas), Michael, Daniel (Florentina) Tostowaryk, Brant Tostowaryk, Jason Tostowaryk (Tammy), Darlene Kost, Tracy Tostowaryk (Steven Pickelner), Wendy (Rene Oullette), Brenda (Sean MacDonald), Sherri (Jay Adamson) and Arlee (John Mundy).
Much loved great aunt of Steven Trudeau, Nicole and Kristen Kost, Dalal Kawas, Skye Tostowaryk, Trevor, Ryan and Jason Lubin, Matthew, Devon and Cole Adamson, Aaron and Sophie Pickelner, Liam and Blake MacDonald, Taylor and Brett Mundy, Nickolas, Jordan and Dylan Tostowaryk and great-great aunt of Holly Trudeau.
Myrtle began her career in the hotel industry at the Fort Garry Hotel in Winnipeg and was promoted to the Queen Elizabeth Hotel in Montreal and the Chateau Laurier Hotel in Ottawa as Executive Housekeeper. After retirement she moved back to Winnipeg.
Our family extends our deepest gratitude to the staff at the Thorvaldson Care Center and to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Riverview Health Center for their wonderful care and compassion, making Myrtle’s final days as comfortable as possible.
Due to Covid restrictions a private graveside service and burial will take place at the Ukrainian Orthodox Church Cemetery in Arbakka, Manitoba on Saturday, June 26, 2021.
Myrtle is now in a place where there is no pain or sorrow.
