Olga Zablotsky (nee Hrytsyk) who loved to be called “Babcia Olia” by her grandkids, peacefully departed her loving family on February 18, 2024 in Winnipeg. Olga was born on December 18, 1942 in village Horbkiv, Sokal region, Lviv oblast, Ukraine to Myhajlo and Rozalia Hrytsyk.
Olga was predeceased by her husband Petro Zablotsky and her brothers Ivan and Slawko Htrytsyk. She is survived by her son Vladimir Zablotski and his wife Olha and their two children Adrian and Sophia, by her daughter Irena Waplak and her husband Slawomir and their two children Ethan and Nicholas and by her sister Irena Kolacz and her children Oleh and Olga.
Olga realized her dream in 1979 when she arrived in Canada and settled in Winnipeg. She had a long career working for Holy Family Home (Дім Пресвятої Родини) and always spoke fondly about her time there.
We will remember Olga as a strong-willed, independent, and courageous woman. She loved talking about history, politics, religion, and cars. In fact, she was one of the first women in her region to receive a commercial driver license. She often said having a driver’s license gave her freedom and independence.
Olga made many sacrifices and endured many challenges to secure a better life for her children in Canada. We are grateful to Mama for bringing us to Canada and giving us a better life.
