Phillip James Squarie
January 21, 1948 – June 1, 2020
Phillip Squarie at the age of 72, a resident of East St. Paul passed away in Concordia Hospital on Monday June 1, 2020, with his loving family by his side.
Phillip is survived by his loving wife Karen of 21 years. Children; Jenine Topping (Dave Kaye), Phillip Jr (Stacey), Grandchildren: Ethan, Zachary, Noah, Hayden and Luxton. Sisters; Rose-Marie Litwin (Gordon), Patricia Jonasson (Dale), Joanne May (Ken Melnyk), Cyndy Riddell (John), and many nieces and nephews. Phillip was predeceased by his parents Phillip and Mary Squarie.
Phillip was born in Winnipeg and grew up in Elmwood. He was married in his early 20’s and had two beautiful children Jenine and Phillip Jr., whom he loved dearly.
During his school years Phillip loved to be involved in many sports; basketball, football, soccer, volleyball and track and field. His athletic abilities earned him an Athlete of the Year Award and a High Jump record at Elmwood High School.
Phillip started his working career as a manager in Eaton’s Basement. His career with Eaton’s took him to be a manager of the Garden City store and then moved to Calgary to manage the South Centre Store. He then moved back to Winnipeg, and was involved with Fun Mountain Water Park. He then purchased a company which became Wicker World Furniture. He grew this business, which he passed on to his son Phillip Jr., his daughter Jenine is also an integral part of the business which is known today as Luxe Furniture Company.
Later in life Phillip met his best friend and loving wife Karen Nistico. They were the perfect couple. Phillip took up the game of golf and they both enjoyed many years on the Elmhurst course. He also loved to go fishing with friends at Lake of the Woods.
Upon retirement, Phillip and Karen spent their winters in Tucson, AZ. He loved it there in the desert sun with his friends, family and grandchildren.
Phillip loved and treasured his family; he was the happiest when they were all around him.
Special thanks are given to the staff at Concordia Hospital for all their care and compassion.
Cremation has taken place and a private family internment will be held on Wednesday, June 10th.
In lieu of flowers donations can be sent to Ronald McDonald House in his memory, Phil was a longtime supporter.
There is a Celebration of Life planned for Thursday, September 3rd at Elmhurst Golf and Country Club at 1:00pm.
