It is with a blend of sorrow and fond remembrance that we announce the passing of Richard Bernhardt on Dec 16, 2023, a devoted family man and a treasured artist.
Born on June 1, 1931, in Galicia, Ukraine, Richard's journey took him through many diverse cultures and experiences while traveling across the world.
He leaves behind his loving wife Adeline, his children Deb (Detlef), Glenn, Kim (Rob), along with his cherished seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Richard is reunited with his four sisters, Antonia, Hedy, Cecile, and Josephine, and his sons, Earl and Doug, who preceded him.
During his career at Manitoba Hydro as a commercial artist, Richard had a passion for painting, sculpting, photography, and woodworking. His creative talents knew no bounds, from crafting the company's internal newspaper to designing intricate parade floats, he did it all. His wealth of knowledge and creativity was generously shared with his family, leaving an enduring impact on their lives.
Richard's happiest moments were found in the loving embrace of his family at home and at the family cabin in Glen Bay. Here, he found joy in the simple pleasures of life, connecting with nature, capturing its beauty through his lens, and attempting to carve designs into every branch he encountered. His sense of humor, as vibrant as his paintings, reminds us that while we may mourn his passing, he continues to live through all of us.
Richard, your life was a masterpiece. Thanks for teaching us to see the beauty in everything and everyone. Cremation has taken place. A private family gathering is planned for a later date.
