It is with heavy hearts that we must announce the passing of Robert James McIntyre after a valiant battle with cancer on Sunday, August 10th 2025, in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Rob is survived by his loving wife Cathy, his dedicated sons Neil and Ryan, his parents Joan and James, his brother Cliff and his sisters Lyn and Katherine; Rob was also predeceased by his brother Stephen. Rob is also survived by aunts, uncles, cousins, his brothers and sisters in-law, nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews and so many dear friends.
Rob was born in Regina, Saskatchewan on July 12th 1958 and moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1968. He would go on to earn awards in German and Mathematics and joined the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets in his teenage years.
Rob joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1978, completing his basic training in Nova Scotia, before joining the Royal Canadian Air Force. Rob was trained as an Air Traffic Controller at CFB Comox in British Columbia before he was deployed to the Baden-SÅllingen base outside Rheinmünster, Germany. Rob served in Germany under the Air Operations Branch until 1982, attaining the rank of Master Corporal; he was also a Canadian peacekeeper with the United Nations. After returning to Canada, Rob would obtain a Radio Operators Certification and served under NORAD on the DEW Line (Distant Early Warning Line) in the Arctic.
Rob returned to Winnipeg in 1986 to the love of his life, Cathy and graduated from Red River College as a Computer Analyst Programmer. Rob and Cathy would later marry and settle in Winnipeg's St. Vital neighbourhood, where they raised two sons.
Rob had an enormous influence on those around him with his love of the sciences, specifically astronomy, paleontology and computer sciences. Rob often encouraged friends and family with these interests and pursuits, especially his two sons. Rob's interest in the sciences also led to an enjoyment of the science fiction and fantasy genres, and he shared books and adventures with so many friends and family. Rob went camping with his family in Whiteshell Provincial Park, Birds Hill Campground, Lilac Resort and Lake 7 Resort across many summers. Rob retired last year from the Canada Revenue Agency after nearly a decade of public service.
A celebration of Rob’s life will be held on Sunday, August 24th at 2:00 p.m. at Korban Funeral Chapel, located at 907 Main St.
In light of Rob’s many meaningful connections, we have created a webpage where uploaded photos, videos, and video messages will be compiled into a memorial tribute. Please visit the obituary page on the Korban Funeral Chapel website to access the link.
It is asked that those in attendance please not bring flowers, as this is a scent-free event for the health of the family.
