Roderick was an adventurous, brave, high-spirited person with a caring demeanor who was thoughtful and liked to help others. He was very passionate about his tattoo designs. His tattoos told a story of a creative and ambitious young man who wore his heart on his skin. He loved being outdoors and spent his time traveling with his partner Destiny to visit family and friends in Winnipeg and back home in Duck Bay, Manitoba. While traveling Roderick liked listening to rap music, but he mostly enjoyed listening to the good old country songs. Inspired by his friends and family who were musicians, he also sang and practiced playing guitar. When he was outside he enjoyed riding and fixing bikes. He also liked to do yard work, and work in his garden.

Roderick was learning his Culture's traditional ways. His family, whom he prayed and smudged for were very important to him. He valued his family and making memories with those he loved because he understood how precious life was. While sitting around the fire with his family he talked about becoming a father someday. Though he did not have the opportunity to have children of his own, he already was a father. And he was a role model to all of our children! He often joked about how he was both cousin and daddy to his step-son Snake. He had many nieces, nephews, and younger cousins whom he celebrated and loved dearly.

His humorous personality and laughter will be missed. Roderick loved to joke and tahshingash with everyone. Roderick maintained his resiliency through many of his life’s struggles and did so with a brave warrior’s face and an immaculate heart. Though he was young, his curiosity and understanding of life made him wise beyond his years. Within his close bonds with his loved ones, he spoke with sincerity and honesty, which was comforting to others around him as he shared in both our happiness and the sorrow that we have had in the family.

Roderick was predeceased by his Grandparents Henry and Alma Fagnan, Aunty Joyce Catcheway, Uncle's Dean, Alex(Daryl), and Robert Fagnan. Brother Robert Sutherland, and cousin Shannon Fagnan. His grandfather Harold Ducharme; his baby nephew Leland; his first cousins Crystal, James-Hank, Jake, Jolene, Crystal (Krissie-girl), Thomas, Jesse, and Ronald Ducharme. His aunt Madeline (Go-girly); his uncles Ronald (Ducharme); and Alex (Bad-baby) Ducharme.

As I sit here preparing to lay your body to rest, we sit with broken hearts. I think back as far as I can remember of how I’ve always loved you so deeply. I tried to hold your hand as best that I could through all of your hurt and pain. I remember the first time you almost left me. Your body was so small and helpless. You were only 9 years old. Me not understanding at that time, what a deep sleep was. I was scared for your life and all I did was sit and pray to please not take my baby brother. I watched mom cry and in so much pain praying that you please wake up. And now today which felt like the final time I get to hold my little brother's hand now 33 years old, I have to let you go to rest. Because the only Creator knows how to take care of you best… I will always love you more my little brother bear, Luv Jen

The Creator took you home too soon! We can take comfort that there is something great in store for you that only in time we may understand. For you, for were a beloved son, a brother, a cousin, and a friend! We love and will miss you dearly Roderick. You will forever remain in our hearts!
