Teresa Letwin Obituary

TERESA LETWIN

It is with great sadness that the family of Teresa Letwin announces her passing on Wednesday September 16th, 2020 at the St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 59 years.  Left to cherish her memory are daughters Alexa and Marika; her brother and sister in-law, Mark and April; and nephews, Jacob, Joshua, and Jesse.  She was predeceased by her beloved parents Nicholas and Mary.

Teresa was a lifelong learner.  Once she entered university taking sciences, she never really left. She then returned to further her passion in Information Technology and later in Criminology.  Each experience gave her more opportunities to learn and grow, which was what she loved. This passion was replicated in her career choices which started in a lab, then carried through a successful career in technology at Cargill as a Senior Technical Analyst. She also started two home businesses during this time.

Teresa was always open to new opportunities. Her studies in criminology pointed her in a new direction that combined her empathy with her wish to help others. She became a probation officer with Community Corrections in September 2002 and focused her intervention and support with those suffering with mental health and addictions.

Born on February 25, 1961, Teresa made Winnipeg her home for her entire life.  She was one of the most caring, generous, loving, funny and thoughtful people you would ever have the pleasure of meeting.  Whether it was her loving arms, her sharp wit or her funny faces that made you laugh, you were instantly brought into her family.  She always made sure that you knew that you were special whether you were her family, friend or the person she just met.  Spending time with people gave her great joy.  Teresa always loved listening to show tunes, watching old movies, musicals, Hallmark movies and leaving CNN on all night.  Teresa also enjoyed driving through Assiniboine Park and Kildonan Park just to people watch and she loved doing it with her family. Teresa was a big fan of the Winnipeg Goldeyes and went to many games during the season.  In the winter, she made it a tradition to take her daughters to Winter Wonderland at least once. Teresa was big on traditions but the thing she loved most was her family.  She was always proud of her two daughters and that was her greatest joy.

For years Teresa suffered through a variety of medical issues.  The last 5 years were extremely difficult for her as she was frequently in and out of the hospital and every slight medication change caused her great discomfort and pain as her body tried to adjust. Yet she never complained and her desire to be a good mother to her daughters and her faith helped her fight through each setback. She was the strongest person we know.

As per Teresa’s request, there will be a Divine Liturgy (Mass) on-line, with Father Michael Kwiatkowski on Saturday, October 3rd 2020 at 10 AM.  Please note that due to COVID-19 restrictions, the service will be closed and you are therefore encouraged to view the service via HolyEucharist.ca and then click on the "livestreaming" icon which will take you to the live broadcast.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
