Veronica Swintak

Veronica Swintak passed away on July 21, 2026, at the age of 87 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She was born on December 15, 1938, in Mossey River, Manitoba, to Katherine and Steve Monchka. In 1961, she married Peter Swintak, and they soon began their family.

Veronica was known throughout her life for her kindness, generosity, candid sense of humor, and dedication to raising her family. She worked as a nurse's assistant at Dauphin General Hospital and St. Paul's Nursing Home in Dauphin. Later, through Assiniboine Community College, she earned a Certificate in Business and worked in business services and hospitality.

Outside of work, Veronica enjoyed sewing, knitting, embroidery, cooking, and baking. She was devoted to her faith community and enjoyed singing in the church choir and participating in the Ukrainian Catholic Women's League.

Veronica is survived by her daughter, Theresa (Mark) Gnutel; her son, Greg (Tracey) Swintak; her grandchildren, Nathan Plustwa (Jessie-Mae), Shawn (Brooke) Plustwa, and Kasia and Tiana Swintak; her great-granddaughter, Cynthia Plustwa; her brother, Elmer (Linda) Monchka; her son-in-law, Ken (Holly) Plustwa; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Walter and Dianne Swintak; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Peter Swintak; her daughter, Cynthia Plustwa; her son, Daniel Swintak; her grandson, Christopher Swintak; her sister and brother-in-law, Victoria and Nick Galay; her sister and brother-in-law, Nettie and Chris Yakielashek; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Miron and Florence Swintak; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Orest and Mary Swintak; her sister-in-law, Helen; and her niece, Gail Swintak.

A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, July 27, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 400 Day Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba. The service will be officiated by her son-in-law, Rev. Fr. Mark Gnutel.

Interment will take place on Tuesday, July 28, 2026 at 2:30 pm at Riverside Cemetery in Dauphin, Manitoba with a time of fellowship to follow.

The family extends a special thank you to Dr. Terry Babick, Dr. Andrea Babick, Dr. Reimer, Dr. Iqbal, the clergy and Sisters, and all the staff at Holy Family Home for the comfort and compassionate care they provided to Veronica over the last 14 years.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Spiritual Care Program at Holy Family Home.
