VICTOR (Vic) KOZMINCHUK
It is with great sadness our family announces the passing of our dear father, and loving grandfather Victor Kozminchuk, on May 19, 2024, at Tuxedo Villa Nursing Home, surrounded by his loving family.
Victor was predeceased by his beautiful wife Dorothy of 48 years.
Victor will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Sharon (Murray) and granddaughter Tianna (Carter); daughter Janice (Martin) and grandson Reese; sister Bernice; sister Phyllis; brother Brian (Jackie); long time girlfriend Barbara Brown; and the many nephews, nieces, and cousins that he thought so highly of.
A special thanks for the warm support and visits from friends and family who brightened Dad’s days and helped us all through this difficult time. The family also thanks all who connected to express how much Victor meant to them and to let us know how many lives he touched.
Victor was born on April 5,1936 in St. Boniface, Winnipeg, Manitoba. He attended Norquay School to grade nine, then on to Technical Vocational High School for his general study and machinist course. On graduating he was employed at Dominion Bridge Company, specializing in structural steel design. In 1962, Vic joined the Children’s Hospital at the Health Sciences Centre working for many years as storekeeper handling all aspects of the hospital’s supplies operation. Dad would retire from the same occupation from Seven Oaks General Hospital in 1996. Vic enjoyed athletics especially hockey, football, baseball, and basketball. As an active member of the Norquay Neighbourhood House, he helped youngsters in athletics in the Point Douglas community. The Norquay Alumni, Tech Voc Alumni, as well as the Elmwood and East Kildonan Seniors Group were fortunate to have Victor as an active member.
In 1959, Victor met his beautiful wife Dorothy, and they were married on July 7, 1962, and began their life together, raising their children Sharon and Janice. Victor enjoyed entertaining family and friends. There were always a lot of dinner parties which concluded the evening with great conversations and lots of dancing at the Kozminchuk’s! He also enjoyed travelling, taking various trips with Dorothy to places in Canada and the United States, along with their casino trips. Victor was very passionate about his house and yard. Dorothy had even more hobbies than Victor and this allowed Victor a constant source of connection and his own Love for his future hobbies like growing a garden and planting flowers along the house that he also needed more and more help with as the circle of life continued. As the circle of life continued, so did Dad’s reliance on Barbara and his children and grandchildren to assist him with maintaining the yard and planting beautiful flowers. But Dad had to make sure all the help we gave was done according to his standards! He also especially enjoyed taking care of and spending lots of time with his grandchildren, Tianna and Reese; they called him Papa and Gigi! Dorothy and Victor looked forward to dancing almost every Saturday evening at Legion #215 on DeVries Avenue, and many other favorite dance halls. Victor will always be remembered as a loving husband, father and friend to everyone.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Tuxedo Villa Nursing Home for the wonderful and compassionate care they provided for Victor. Special thanks to Doctors Oscar and Sheila Domke, Dr. Elizabeth Whittaker and Right at Home private home care for the care they gave Victor over the years.
Funeral service will be held on Friday May 24, 2024 at 11:30 a.m., at Korban Funeral Chapel 907 Main Street, Winnipeg, MB. Interment to follow at Holy Family Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Victor’s memory to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
Dad, Papa, Gigi you will be lovingly remembered and forever in our hearts. Love, the family, siblings and his many friends. Rest in Peace; Vichnaya Pam'Yat.
