It is with great sadness and much love that we share the passing of Bill on May 28, 2022, at Riverview Health Centre.
Bill will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 51 years, Ethel; children Nancy (Richard) Honey, and John (Lori); grandchildren who were his pride and joy, Morgana, Brody, Owen and Presley; sisters Marie Baluk, Helen Brandvold, Ollie (Roy) Koniuck; brothers, Walter, Steve (Jocelyn Krug); nieces, nephews, and many extended family members and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Anna and Michael; brother-in-law Don Brandvold and brother-in-law Dan Baluk.
Born on April 7, 1934, Bill was raised in the north end of Winnipeg where he attended St. Nicholas School and Tech Voc High School and was Quarterback of the Football team. He believed in continuous learning and later completed numerous courses including a Certificate in Business Management and was an active and long-time member of Toastmasters.
Bill retired from Manitoba Hydro in 1992 after a 37-year career working with the Engineering Department and later as a Business Representative in Customer Sales and Service. He spoke very highly of his tenure with the utility and was proud of the many accomplishments and friendships he made during his career.
Bill developed several residential properties. He enjoyed talking to tenants and building relationships. He devoted a lot of time and energy to caring for his properties and was an active member of the Manitoba Home Builders Association, the Apartment Investors Association and later the Professional Property Managers Association.
In 1955, Bill joined the Knights of Columbus as a charter member of the St. Josaphat Council #4138 and was a member of St. Alphonsus Parish for over 50 years.
Bill touched the lives of many. Those who met him admired his passion, positive attitude and love for life. He was full of gratitude and appreciated all life had to offer. Bill loved meeting friends for coffee and talking about sports, politics and staying up on current events.
From a young age, Bill lived an active life. He had a love for sports and enjoyed playing hockey, golf, baseball, tennis, football and swimming. He cherished his time spent mentoring, coaching and playing sports with his children and grandchildren. In retirement, Bill enjoyed golfing with the Garden City Seniors and running and walking daily to stay fit.
The family was everything to Bill. His greatest source of joy was to be surrounded by his wife, children and his precious grandchildren. They were the light of his life. He was so proud of everyone’s accomplishments and supported us in whatever we wanted to do. Bill enjoyed summers at the family cottage near Grand Beach, travelling with friends and family including trips to Florida and Disney World with his children and grandchildren. He also had many wonderful memories of spending time with family in Minneapolis and Vancouver. Bill will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Special thanks to our dear friends Nadia and Diane for their loving support and friendship over the years.
A memorial service to celebrate Bill's life will be held on Friday, June 10 at 10:30 am at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St, Winnipeg.
The family would like to thank the Palliative Care Program and the medical team on 3E at Riverview Health Centre. Special thanks to Dr. Dennis Caners, Dr. Versha Banerji and Nurse Lindsay for the care given to Bill over the years.
