Wolodymyra Kulbaba Obituary

With profound sadness, we announce that Wolodymyra Kulbaba passed away peacefully on January 16, 2026, with family by her side. She was born on January 1, 1944 to parents Wasyl Husarewycz and Warwara Nykolajiszyn in the Selo of Verbyatin, district of Buchach, Ternopol Oblast, Ukraine. When she was only 3 months of age, her father was taken away as a prisoner of war. Along with her mother and brother, they were left to fend for themselves. In the years that followed, she managed to get her education, help on the collective farm, and help care for the family.

Wolodymyra, no longer the infant left behind, made her way to Canada with her mother to be reunited with her father in 1968. Now a young lady in a new country, her hard working nature was evident when she went to work the next day at a sewing factory.

Wolodymyra met Frank in 1969. Following their marriage in 1970, they had three children: Lesia, Stephen, and Walter. She took pride in being a homemaker and was dedicated to raising and educating her children. Mom and Dad worked hard to offer their children opportunities they did not have.

She enjoyed teaching second grade at the Ukrainian School of Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral for many years. She will be fondly remembered by many of her former students not only for her lessons, but more so for the sweet treats she would hand out at the end of class.

After her children were grown, she found fulfillment working in many spheres, including event services at the Winnipeg Convention Centre, Mom’s Perogy Factory, and Walmart.

Wolodymyra will be forever remembered for her warm, generous heart. She always made sure her family and anyone around her were well fed and happy in spirit. Her grandchildren will remember her as Babtsi, who loved them greatly and would spoil them all the time. They will definitely miss being called aside and given a few dollars to buy a treat.

She was predeceased by her parents, Wasyl and Warwara. She is survived by her husband, Frank; her children, Lesia, Stephen, and Walter (Nicole); her grandchildren, Mary, Carter, Spencer, Parker, and Harper. She also leaves to mourn her brother, Stephen (Vera), and their children, Natalie and William and their families; as well as relatives in Ukraine and Chicago.

A funeral liturgy will take place on Saturday, January 24, at 10:30 a.m. at Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral, 115 McGregor St., Winnipeg.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to either Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral in Winnipeg or Arthritis Research Canada.
