Zigmund Marcino Obituary

With great sadness, the family announces that Ziggy passed away peacefully at the Grace Hospice, with family at his side. Left to mourn his passing are daughters Kim, Lisa (Perry), and Dionne (Russ); grandchildren Quinn and Kaya; stepsons Kelly (Darlene) and Brad (Lisa); sisters Liz, Florence, Joyce, Judy (Ken), and Lorraine (Terry) and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Vivianne, parents Joe and Mary, and brother Kashmir.

Dad was born and raised in Erickson, Manitoba. He spent his youth on the family farm and enjoying summers at Clear Lake where he met our mom, Norene Peeler. In 1965, dad began his career with the CNR in the Mechanical Engineering department in Fort Frances. In 1970, the CNR relocated our family back to Winnipeg and Dad purchased our family home in St. Norbert where he resided for the rest of his life. Dad had a strong sense of community and made many lifelong friends in St. Norbert. He was instrumental in starting both the Eagles Aries 3870 and the ringette program at the St. Norbert Community Club where he coached us to multiple city and provincial championships.

Dad's faith was strong. He was an original parishioner at Mary Mother of the Church where he married his beloved Vivianne in 2006. Dad's years with Vivianne were some of his happiest. They spent their summers at Falcon Lake fishing, enjoying the wildlife, and golfing. In the winter he enjoyed making wine, curling, snooker, and cross-country skiing.

Dad was giving and helpful. He loved to share what he grew in his garden and as a jack of all trades, he was always lending a hand to family, friends, and neighbours. Dad enjoyed carpentry and woodworking and made many unique and intricate pieces.

As kids, dad taught us the importance of kindness, patience, and resiliency; during his courageous final years, he exemplified these traits.

Thank you to the staff at the Grace Hospice for the outstanding care they provided dad in the final months of his life.

We will celebrate dad's life at Mary Mother of the Church (85 Kirkbridge Dr, Winnipeg) on Saturday, April 30 at 1:00 PM with interment at the St. Norbert Cemetery. A reception at the Eagles Club will follow. A donation may be made to the Grace Hospital Foundation in lieu of flowers.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
