Steve Yeryk

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, Steve Yeryk, peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Monday, October 21, 2019 at 89 years of age.

Steve was born August 4th, 1930 in Piney, Manitoba, He was predeceased by both of his parents Harry and Mary (Soroski), brothers Walter and wife Dorothy, Joe, Frank and wife Martha and sister Sophie (Kosowan) and husband Joe. Steve is survived by his wife of 64 years Gail, sisters Shirley Hornick and husband Gerald, and Marlene Dupas (and recently passed husband Ed). His children Joe and wife Diane, Michael and wife Monica, Joanne De Baets and husband Gary, David and Mark and wife Tracy, 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Steve grew up in Carrick, Manitoba. He began working for the CN Railway in 1948 and retired in 1989.  After a few moves with the railway, he made home in Rainy River, Ontario in 1961, where he lived for the last 58 years.

He met his wife Gail in Carrick, Manitoba while she was teaching school there and eventually they married in 1955.

Throughout his life, her was an avid hunter and fisherman, loving the outdoors. Some of his past times include playing cards, curling and golf, but one of his favorite was spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also had a great love of music and dancing. Steve was an active, dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus for more than 50 years. He had a great sense of humor and made friends easily through conversation everywhere he went. He also spent many years collecting for the Arthritis Society. Lending a helping hand and never saying no was his way.

On Saturday October 26, 2019 a Vigil will be held @ 10:00 a.m. with the Funeral Service to follow @ 11:00 a.m. at our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Rainy River, ON.

A mass will be held on Tuesday October 29, 2019 at Christ our Saviour Catholic Parish, 365 Loewen Blvd. in Steinbach, MB  @ 2:00 p.m.

We will greatly miss and treasure his wisdom, comfort, humor and company.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you share a smile and reach out a helping hand in memory of Steve.
