Jennie Dobush Obituary

Jennie (Jean) Dobush (Grocholski)

Peacefully on December 20th 2020, at the age of 96, Jennie Dobush passed away at Holy Family Home with her family by her side.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Emily (Chris); daughter-in-law Jeroslawa; grandchildren, Christine (David), Monica (Darrel), Michael (Tammy), and Shane (Penny); great-grandchildren Meaghan, Matthew, Keenan, Kyla, Kaitlin, Daniel, and Alex; and many nieces and nephews.

Jennie was predeceased by her husband Theodore, son Walter, parents, Walter and Adele Grocholski, sisters, Nellie, Helen, Mary, and Kay, and brother Joseph.

Jennie was born on April 9th, 1924 in Winnipeg, MB and spent her early childhood in Sioux Lookout, ON with her parents. She returned to Manitoba, and lived in Meleb with her family. She was married to Theodore Dobush in 1941 and the two of them raised their family in Transcona.

Jennie was a hard worker and enjoyed keeping busy by helping others and caring for her family. She was a long-time employee at Eaton’s and later enjoyed spending her time by being involved at both St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Parish in Transcona as well as the Ukrainian Catholic Church of The Resurrection in Dauphin. She especially loved singing in the choir. Jennie was a devout Ukrainian Catholic and a proud member of the Ukrainian Catholic Women's League for 60 years. She placed importance on travel and enjoyed her many trips to holy sites around the world, including trips throughout Canada, Ukraine, the Holy Land, Italy, Portugal, Spain, France, Greece, Japan, Thailand, and Australia. Jennie enjoyed photographing her life’s adventures, capturing her memories on film, which her family will treasure. She will of course be remembered by her family for her delicious traditional Ukrainian cooking. You could never leave her home without being gifted with borscht, perogies, pyrizhky, holubtsi, turkey pies, and baking. Jennie was the family’s most loyal Blue Bombers fan, and was happy to see them win the Grey Cup in 2019. Above all, she will always be remembered as a wonderful Mother and Babchi.

A private funeral service will be held on December 29th, 2020. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sister Servants of Mary Immaculate and to St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Parish. Her family would like to give a big thank you to Holy Family Home, where she has been residing since May 2019, especially to the caring staff in the St. Martha’s Unit.

Rest in Peace! Vichnaya Pamyat!
