Laverne Karlsen Obituary

Laverne Leslie Karlsen

September 18, 1951 - December 19, 2020

Peacefully on December 19th, 2020 Laverne Leslie Karlsen went to be with her lord and savior Jesus Christ. Laverne is survived by her children: Grant & Laurie Kennedy (Kaitlyn, Moira, Teryl), Kelli & Brad Jackson (Jordyn, Mackenzie), Leslie & Jeff Peterson (Jayden, Kristin, Kaylee), Rob Kennedy (Ayden, Kole)  as well as several nieces and nephews.

Laverne was born in Vanguard, Saskatchewan in 1951, and raised in Swift Current Saskatchewan. She also spent parts of her life in Saskatoon Saskatchewan, Thompson, Dauphin and most recently Winnipeg.

Laverne enjoyed a rewarding 40-year career at Canada Safeway which saw her work in various positions within the company most recently as a Store Manager. She has many lifelong friendships with her co-workers many of whom are considered extended family.

She was quite active and volunteered her time with the Scandanavian Centre where she enjoyed Scandanavian folk dancing, and the Norwegian Canadian club. She also volunteered many years to Folklorama representing the Scandanavian pavilion as an Ambassador and was honored to be selected as Ambassador General for Folklorama in 1995.

Laverne enjoyed her summer trips to Newfoundland to visit her granddaughter Kaitlyn and extended family Robyn and Tony Schwerdtfeger (T.J.). She also spent time travelling to Norway, Denmark, and took many trips to Wisconsin Dells and B.C. with grandkids. She spent many hours watching her grandchildren play in various sports and tournaments around the province she is also known to be a proud Saskatchewan Roughriders fan.

Her strong faith in Christ provided her courage to face her illness and was an inspiration to her family. We appreciate the love and support from her friends through the Thompson Christian Centre, and Abundant Life Baptist Church.

We would also like to thank the St. Boniface Hospital palliative care unit. The compassion and support provided by everyone in the palliative unit provided great comfort to our mother and our family as well.

Due to covid-19 pandemic restrictions a private memorial service will be held at a later date.
