Maria Danko

December 6,1926 – March 11,2019

Peacefully on March 11, 2019 Maria Danko passed away at Holy Family Home. Maria was born in Mlyny, Poland in 1926 to parents Ivan and Maria Ewanek. In 1946, under government pressure, the whole family was forced to move to Selo Nadrichne Ternopil Region, Ukraine where they took up residence. On July 14, 1947 Maria married Petro Svitoschak and in 1948 a daughter was born that sadly died within 6 months. In 1951 her mother passed away shortly followed by her father.

In 1986 her husband Petro passed away. Her niece, Vera Drebot, sponsored Maria to Canada in 1990. In July of 1990 she married Hryhory Danko and began her life in Canada, becoming a Canadian Citizen in 1994. She was predeceased by her sisters Kathryn Danko of Winnipeg and Anna Malysh of Cleveland, Ohio. In April 2004 her husband Hryhory passed away. After his death Maria moved to the Seniors apartments-Selo Villa. She belonged to St. Andrews Ukrainian Catholic Church and later to the parish of Sts. Vladimir and Olga as well as the Women's League (U.C.W.L.C.) and Zoloti Vorota Seniors Club. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 10:am on Thurs. March 21, 2019 at Sts. Vladimir & Olga Cathedral, 115 McGregor St. with Rt. Rev. Msgr. Mitrat Michael Buyachok officiating. Interment to follow at All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Cathedral.
