Walter Tkachyk Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband and father on Saturday, February 27, 2021.

Walter is survived by his wife Helen of 64 years, son Brian, daughters Brenda (Jerry), Cathy (Gary), Janice (Rob), Grandchildren Keith, Tim (Chelsey), Mark, Christine, Nick, Luba (Dustin) and Tony (Brynn), Sister Martha (Adam), Sisters-in-laws Doris and Pat Tkachyk, Mary Pidkowich and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents Nicholas and Magdalina, his brothers Tony (Mary), Matt, Roman (Nelda) and twin brother Steve.  Sister-in-law Mary Kachur (John),  Brother-in-law Steve (Irene) and Peter Pidkowich,

Walter was born November 1, 1931 in Winnipeg.  He grew up in Dufrost and later moved to the family farm in Culross, MB.  He moved to Winnipeg where he met Helen and married.  They have 4 children and 7 grandchildren.

Walter was a dedicated family man and employee.  He worked at GM Guest and Crown Utilities as a welder before retiring.  He was a skilled handyman and never refused to lend out a helping hand and always had a solution to fix everything.

He enjoyed playing chess, curling, golfing and watching Jets hockey.  He was a self taught fiddler and played at many family gatherings.

He was a member of the Sts. Peter and Paul Ukr. Church, a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus (Bishop Ladyka Council) and the 50+ Club at the church. He worked very hard volunteering with the church and the Knights of Columbus.  He had a great sense of humor and will be missed by everyone!

Due to Covid 19 restrictions, a limited funeral service with immediate family only will take place at Sts. Peter and Paul Church on Saturday, March 6, at 11:00am with Father Darren Kawiuk officiating.  Internment at Glen Lawn Cemetery.
