It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, and grandma Yaroslava Maslij on Wednesday, March 6 at St. Boniface Hospital.
Yaroslava was born on May 17, 1944 in the village of Uizd, in Western Ukraine.
Yaroslava leaves to mourn her husband Stepan, children Michael and Halia, grandchildren Andriy and Taras, as well as family in Ukraine.
She was predeceased by her parents Micheal and Ludmyla, brother Petro and sister Maria.
After she finished school in Ukraine, Yaroslava worked in Byrshtyndress for a few years. Then she got married to her husband Stepan, and they had two children together, their son Micheal and daughter Halia. A few years later, Yaroslava found work at a bakery. She worked there until she, her husband, and their children moved to Winnipeg, Canada, sponsored by her husband's parents. In Winnipeg, Yaroslava worked at Gunn's Bakery until retirement.
Yaroslava was an extremely religious and devout woman. She was a long-time member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church and Catholic Women's League of Canada.
Yaroslava was well known for her outstanding cooking skills. She had a passion for baking and could prepare many delectable treats with ease.
Yaroslava also enjoyed tending to her small vegetable garden. She had a knack for growing beautiful flowers around her house, and her garden was often a sight to behold.
Yaroslava loved her family, especially her grandchildren Andriy and Taras, and always had a treat for them.
Yaroslava's family and friends will always remember how she loved cooking, baking, and gardening. Her memory will forever live on through the countless delicious shared meals that were prepared by her, the lush and beautiful flower garden she grew every summer, and the warmth she brought into their lives.
The funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at 10:00 AM at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, 160 Euclid Ave. Interment will follow in the All Saints Cemetery.
